Hello,
Just finished the final task of at least three hours sorting out old files. Past files are those that make me feel not good so at least a start. So today I will think of what to get done next.0 -
One of the things I must really out on my TD list is post on here:rotfl: Forgot last weekend as a bit preoccupied with work prep...........so this week I will:
catch up on some admin work I do for a charity
make meal plans
continue with stock take of food stores - this seems a stop and start activity!
put the Christmas table mats etc away:rotfl:
put 10 things in the charity bag
and as its a FLW I guess I will be listing tooBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Welcome Mothernerd - I like your 3 things idea and may well adopt it..............and then train the rest of the household;) My MIL always said - 'never leave a room empty handed' - I try to stick to that too...........if only her son wouldBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

mothernerd wrote: »Can I join too. I am a newcomer to the site (I have been a follower for many years, have the books, do things like comparing gas and electric bills but haven't joined in till now). Have been reading stuff all week but this is the first post.
I have a to do list as long as my arm - Only me and the baby (23 year old) still at home now so DOWNSIZING IS A PRIORITY but this means getting the house fit to sell. Spent all my money on a damp proof course in October (all plaster under 3 feet chipped off , kitchen base units skipped as they were rotten. We discovered an indoor swimming pool under the floorboards, masses of old bricks and damp soot in one of the fireplaces and a leak under the bath brought down half the kitchen ceiling -dealing with these took any emergency money/ money towards the kitchen had. My oven has been propped up on bricks (keeps it level and useable) and the shelving I am using was in the back yard at my mothers. Roof repairs had to be put off till January and I spent the intervening weeks (until about week before Christmas) priming, undercoating and glossing all the new skirting boards and painting the living room, dining room , kitchen hallway and downstairs loo with the special new plaster paint. Also did the ceilings covering any hairline cracks (needed anti- damp and stain paint and mould remover from when the walls were damp before - spread through the cavity wall to upstairs bedroom ) and used leftover cans to touch up any downstairs bits not directly affected (above dado/picture rail depending on room).
I jotted down lots of jobs that need doing (crawling round on your hands and knees you really notice things) and having them written down was better than having them in my head).
Before Christmas I tried writing a THIS WEEK list -
DON'T put so many things on that you get discouraged and
MORE flexible than a daily list
I read somewhere once that IF IT'S ONLY A FIVE MINUTE JOB, DO IT NOW (takes you longer to find the list and write it down and if you need encouraging you can always write it down on the list and cross it off straight away.
THREE THINGS RULE (been using this a lot recently) Before I leave my bedroom in the morning (if it's not freezing) I look round and try to find three things I can put away or that need to be taken out of the room, then when I get down to the bathroom I repeat the process (lots of stuff still on landing/ rubbish from son's room on bin day). Any little thing you can do to improve that room.
THIS WEEK
I compared gas and electric prices
Started a food diary
Wrote a State of Affairs (might be able to get it up on the board now)
Phoned Council and got my Council Tax rebate (£136)
Started a spending diary
Put two hinges on the shed door (been off for two/three years now - painted it and the hinges in summer )
Third hinge broken - put in recycle bin (bought a replacement -2 for a pound- before Christmas but couldn't find it - must have been that mad throwing everything in a box and hiding it on Boxing Day when unexpected visitors phoned to say they were on their way)
Found new hinge , put it on and re-attached missing strip
Transferred £4000 of debt from 22.481% card to 4.9 % for a year (Couldn't get 0 % card but two existing cards -away in drawer, not using, paying off - had recently increased my credit limit)
Made a trip to B&Q to look at sheds to work out where the remaining strip of shed door should go - by next week I might have it back on the shed.
Made an appointment to see a health trainer (lost three stone in last year, started 12 week free weigh in and group plus exercise class in October but now have to pay £4-95 a week ) Decide to miss group, still go to exercise class pay £4.95 every Monday off my debts as part of the make a payment every day.
SORRY this is a lot longer than I expected it to be and I have gone a bit off topic in places.
Hi Just wanted to say well done you
It really helps to put things down in writing and see it in black and white.
You should be really proud of your self as you have come so far already and you are in the right place (MSE) to get loads of help and advice
You are like me in breaking it all down in to manageable chunks and dealing with it bit by bit.
Post your SOA so the very knowledgeable people on here will be able to help and advise you.
Good luck to you in the house renovations and isn't amazing what you can do when you have to
