Tesco Wine - avoid at all costs

Placed an order for 18 bottles of champagne two weeks ago for delivery today.

Order just turned up (late) with 6 bottles missing. Delivered with a shrug & the comment "that must have been out of stock".

No notice whatsoever from Tesco informing me of this beforehand, just confirmation emails that everything would be delivered.

So what has Tesco said then? As opposed to the delivery driver who, after all, is just dropping off what he's been given.

Good question fluffnutter - one I was just about to ask!

Also curious about the "ordered 2 weeks ago for delivery today", how is that "late", assume they gave a time slot?

Tesco haven't said anything reason being they don't answer the phone (gave up after being in their queue for 30 mins) and haven't yet answered email.

It was late because they gave a time slot and didn't deliver in it.

(which I thought would have been obvious).

    I feel you're overreacting.

There is no guarantee when you order food/drink in advance it will be in stock 2 weeks later. All supermarkets have this issue.

How late were they? As you posted at 10:16am I can't see they were that late. I suspect only a few minutes.

Neither of these reasons for me would make me agree with your initial statement that tesco wine should be avoided at all costs. I would maybe be a bit cautious about ordering wine too far in advance but I would not avoid them.

When you order from Tesco wine it shows some items as in stock and some as out of stock. It's entirely reasonable to expect the in stock items to actually be in stock. Every other online retailer I use manages this. Supermarkets are no different, wine is just a product & you shouldn't say it's in stock if it isn't.

Furthermore It's UTTER garbage that if it's then out of stock they don't bother to contact you to let you know / re-order / cancel the order.

Also who cares what you "suspect" regarding how late they were. They were late, but if you weren't so keen to disagree with me for the sake of it you wouldn't be looking for reasons to excuse that too.

So to summarise: They advertised a product as in stock when it wasn't. They didn't even bother to inform me. They turned up late with the partial delivery. And they do not respond to any form of contact regarding this. An utter shambles, the sort of p1ss-pot rubbish I'd expect from a one-man-band, not one of the largest Companies in Britain.

It makes me laugh the people who read this forum for the sole reason of disagreeing with anyone who complains, legitimately, about disgusting service. Never understood their mentality.

I use online supermarkets a lot. You often get at least one substitute item as the original wasn't in stock. Obviously it's a poor show from tesco but you ordered 2 weeks in advance so it's not massively surprising that the stock levels are different 2 weeks later.

As for tescos contacting you. I can only assume you've emailed then in the last 2 hours? I don't think 2 hours is giving them a fair amount of time to respond. Normally you give a company 24 hours to respond before getting annoyed.

I'm ignoring the rest of your rant as it's all a bit weird ;)

But you are over-reacting. Disgusting service would be something like an employee swearing at you or a company taking your money and not delivering anything.

All they did was arrive late (which could have been for a legitimate reason) and were unable to deliver all the items (again could have been a legitimate reason).

So everyone rushing to defend Tesco's is just going to conveniently ignore the worst part i.e. that at no point did they contact me to tell me the item wouldn't be delivered?

Not answering the phone for 30 minutes (+ who knows how much longer had I wanted to carry on paying for the privilege of listening to their on-hold music) is also a joke.

Disgusting service and then some. First & last time I use Tesco wine online.

Whilst not defending any poor service you may be receiving from Tesco, judging by your responses so far on here I expect they'll be relieved never to have to 'serve' you again.

You're clearly fuming, but perhaps if you at least try to wind your neck in a bit you might get some helpful suggestions, alternative phone numbers for Tesco etc

On the other hand, you can just carry right on demonstrating why the delivery driver decided not to give a toss!

And yet another poster who can't resist chipping in to Tesco's defence. I was perfectly civil with the delivery driver, who couldn't give a toss regardless so your assumption is wrong.

Anyway, this was posted for the benefit of anyone who might, like me, have assumed that when Tesco took payment for in-stock items & arranged a delivery date, then confirmed all that by email, they might actually intend to honour it.

Obviously those people who've replied are absolutely delighted to place an order, arrange to be at home to collect it, wait while the delivery slot comes & goes, have it turn late up with items missing & no explanation, then be unable to contact the company to find out what's going on.

I'm sure you all love it when that happens, and that none of you are hypcocrites glibly saying how it's no big deal.
