  • Went online and they offered me £115 for my iphone which was 18 months old. The phone has been in a rubber case from the first day that I had it and was proud of the fact it did not have one single scratch or mark on it and that it was in perfect working order. Sent the phone off securely in bubble wrap within the ridiculous flimsy bag they supplied, and called 3 days later to see if they had recieved my phone. Spoke to a lady who said yes we have received your phone but we have downgraded your offer to £36.08 because of "substantial wear and tear." Told them that I have photographic evidence and witnesses to say that it is in prestine condition and that you should take a second look before I report it. The reply I got from the lady was "our computer system automatically downgrades the phones if it is scratched". After threatening with BBC Watchdog, funny enough I had a call back a few hours later and recieved the full price of £115. STAY CLEAR OF THIS BUNCH, USE MAZUMA OR ANOTHER COMPANY.
  • Went on sellmymobile.co.uk to get a price for one of my old phones..

Price listed was around £55. Went to Cash4Phones site via TopCashBack and proceeded with the order.

    Phone sent off.

    Phone rec'd

Email rec's this week to say they have reviwed the phone and it has wear and tear and are now offering £18.

Obviosuly i'm going to decline this, but they want to charge £9 to return the phone to me.

    how annoying.
  • To get top money list on EBAY be very honest in description and start at £0.99 no reserve this method always generates me far more Mazuma and co.
  • Yeah I know I could get more on eBay, but to be honest I can't be arsed with the timewasters and risks of scammers on there.

My mate listed his broken iphone 4S on there a few months ago.

Listed it as "for parts not working". Mentioned the faults in the description and got good money for it... A few weeks later he now owes eBay over £200 cos they refunded the buyer as they said it was broken(!)

Well, your method got you with a pretty good time waster/scammer! Sometimes it is better to to DIY as I've never heard of anyone being surprised at how much more they got from a recycler. The other caveat, is what you get back may also not be the phone you sent - check their T&C's

Try Gumtree. I sold my old mobile no problem. Mazuma etc were offering £55/£60 but I managed to get £100 cash in hand for it. Average price on eBay was around the £100 mark but then you've got your fees to take off and the faff of posting.
Saying that, I still managed to get a scam email from someone through Gumtree lol

If the advert was as clear as you describe there is no way he should be paying that money, and I would expect this would be resolvable with eBay without having to resort to a small claims court.

Well done DB, you did well the get the right price eventually. I wish these ppl would bet shut down.
  • Hi,

I've just had the same experience with this total scam of a company! Angry at them and at myself for not researching them properly before I sent my phone off by special delivery!

Wish I'd read this forum!! :(

Used them as they were listed on a comparison website (sellmymobile.com) with a 4 out of 5 star rating! Maybe naively I thought that this rating was a sign of a reputable company! I'll be steering clear of both companies in the future as Cash4Phones is a blatant rip off scam to earn money off return postage (incidentally they want £8.95 off me and not £4.95)! And sellmymobile's "ratings" are less reliable than Boozy Bob's Big Tip on the 4:15 at Doncaster! I'd advise others to never use either company!!

As others have stated above I'd also always kept my phone in a wallet style case so it was in great condition!

Thanks DB for your post I'll also try the steps that you highlighted to see how I get on!

    Really ****ed off!!!!!
  • There T&C's are invalid too really.

They say that their quotation is a non-contractual quote and that in sending your phone to them you are making them an offer.

This is an unfair legal term, and under the The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999
