That sounds like truely amazing science Glawejen!! We are so lucky to live in this country.
Re your colleague, it was probably inappropriate, but everyone has their hangups and clearly there is a history there. It's is an area where people have pretty strong emotions. I think since TTC I am slightly more aware that there are a million secret heartaches that lots of people are concealing.
On the ethical front - do you know that IVF is against the catholic 'rules'. We got a long lecture on it at our pre-wedding meetings with the priest, which I entirely ignored of course! He did also say that even if we want a baby a lot, we are not to kidnap one.. which somewhat undermined the value of his advice!
But, in a way I do understand it a bit more now. AIUI the reason they object is due to the 'waste' i.e. the embryos that don't make it and are allowed to perish. Maybe now I have had some live and die it feels more real. Those little embies are our children... I know that's far from the truth but sometimes it feels true.
I remember RG saying during the last cycle that she wanted to go and metaphorically hold the embies hand as they went to day3. I totally get that!0 -
Oh I'm on the lists, thanks!
I've had a hellish day. I spoke to my gp on the phone to tell her about the fibroids that were shown on the ultrasound. She was happy to get things cracking with a gynaecologist referral. She wasn't very positive though and she said that it might mean a hysterectomy. She explained that she wanted me to be prepared for the worst case scenario. It was just so difficult to take in on the phone at work. I then had to come home and explain it all to my oh and then to my mum on the phone. Really trying to stay positive for them but it's not working. So sick of crying. My head is like mush now. I'm going to bed and hopefully will feel more positive tomorrow.
Thanks for listening. It really means a lot.0 -
Carp tea I was hoping we could be ICSI buddies. Have to take a cool bag & ice blocks to my scan do I can collect my drugs.
Glasjen it's amazing science and I'm really glad it's moved from research into treatment. The biscuit will only dare to be just a biscuit when it is with its true friend the potato. (Edward Monkton) :beer:0 -

Whilst the very worst case scenario is a hysterectomy that's not a decision the gynae will take lightly and from what I've seen from friends and family it's much more usual for it to be done towards menopause after they've had their children.
Also the NHS page says that if fibroids are symptomless then no treatment is needed and the first line of treatment is medicine, not surgery.
Everyone I know who has fibroids has had at least one healthy pregnancy so there's definitely hope. Personally I'd wait to see what the consultant says as we find time and time again on these threads that GPs tend to have little idea about gynaecolgical problems and I'm angry on your behalf that they scared you like thatLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

Oh sweetie, how horrible. I've not read back so apologies if you've already mentioned this, but do you have bad symptoms with your fibroids? If you don't I'd find it utterly bizarre that a hysterectomy would be recommended. Most people have got all sorts of odds and ends wrong with their bodies - surgeons don't go around removing bits unless they're causing real problems. Speak to the specialist - GPs are great but they're not experts and I think her 'preparation' was inappropriate personally, particularly over the phone."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Clever I can't believe your GP did that. A hysterectomy is OTT for symptomless fibroids. I hope your gynaecologist is more realistic and the referral comes through quickly. The biscuit will only dare to be just a biscuit when it is with its true friend the potato. (Edward Monkton) :beer:0

Clever name that sounds like when my friend was told her uterus deformity pretty much means she could never carry a child by her gp. 5 minutes of google research showed that was complete bolocxs!! She was referred to a specialist who told her that was rubbish & she's had plenty of ladies have healthy babies with the same condition.
When I was in hospital before the lady next to me had fibroids & they certainly weren't talking about hysterectomys! I think she was actually have fertility treatment - and not because of that fibroids she just had that too.
I agree with TL your gp is wrong for scaring you like that.0 -
tealover are you getting IVF too?
Yup! Will be starting our second go at ICSI in the next few weeks (just waiting for CD1 to roll around). I reckon we'll all be on a massive roll by then. Peonie, T2D and WTDN will have had their BFPs and I will just coast along behind on the wave of their triumph:).
Sounds like you have quite a plan in place there, it really is amazing how fast things have come on in the past 30 years. I won't pretend to understand the science of it all but will have everything crossed for you x.0 -
Hi
Sorry haven't been on for a few says as had a busy week and have been reading up on what I've missed, apologies in advance if there is anyone I've missed!
SewIt/Frozen How are you cycle buddies? Are you near the end of your DRing? Hope your FiL is doing ok, Frozen?
Code Really sorry to hear your news, big hugs xx
Glaswejen Wow that sounds pretty amazing what they can do!
Rowingirl Good luck with your cycle! Is it the short protocol you are on?
Those with embies on board I have my fingers crossed for you all
AFM I'm still on the Norethisterone, finish taking them on Sunday night and have my baseline scan on Wednesday. Hopefully start my drugs on Thursday. Starting to feel a bit more positive about this cycle now, maybe once I've been in for my scan and got my drugs it will make me feel more so.
Hugs to anyone that needs them xx52 Week Challenge £15/£13780
