There is a slight chance you would be eligible for funding - depends on your PCT.

I think funding for seeing a FS/gynaecologist isn't the same as IVF. You could be referred to a FS, and maybe do a HSG, or other tests to see if they can see anything wrong. Although you have a child things could have changed for you since then.

You DH might be eligible for some treatment if he has a fixable problem.

I don't believe it's IVF or nothing. Hopefully they can still offer you some assistance.

I hope so. My DH was SO upset the other night (see post a little while back!) at the thought that he might be completely infertile. He has now got it into his head and refuses to be budged. I have Cysts on my ovary and only have one remaining ovary due to removal when i was 13yrs old... so pretty messed up anyway lol... although i had all that when i had ds 9 years ago so.....! So, at what point do people generally get referred to FS? After SA and bloods? Or does one have to REALLY push to be referred? As I get the feeling my GP doesnt think its a problem that we have been ttc for over 3 years now and nothing has happened at ALL. Whenever I ask about tests etc, like the SA, she says "ohh well i suppose i could send him for one of those, if you like?" and things like that  The last time I saw her she said "well are you doing it every 48hours?"... I was like "um yeah... (duh) for the last THREE YEARS!!!!" But late to enquire whether we know stuff like that LOL

Think it's yet another part of the process that changes in every area. Our GPs haven't been been involved at all. I saw mine once, said "I have endo and we've been trying for a couple of years" and GP sent us on our way to FS. Ours does NHS and private but funding wasn't mentioned until we got to icsi, all the tests were NHS.

There are still further tests you could have, eg. HSG/hycosy, u/s for your OH to check for varioceles etc.

    Don't give up :)

Bigmomma, my OH had rubbish SA's and our GP referred us to an NHS FS who did loads of bloods and had a wee check of OH, at that appt he said that he was sure OH did not have any vas deferens, which was indicative of him being a CF carrier. This turned out to be the case, but as I already have a son we weren't eligible for any further treatment on the NHS. Although OH's SA's were zero, he had a procedure to have the sperm surgically removed, and there were swimmers in there which were frozen to use for ICSI. It seems that there are huge variations between areas around referral, my GP ws great as a referral needed to be done before I was 39 I think, so she just did it. Following the initial NHS appt all our treatment was private, with the same FS. I think what I'm trying to say is poor SA's aren't always the end of the road, good luck x

We are off to Sydney. It's my hometown and I want to get back to family after 8 years here - although I am totally in Love with London. But I'm actually starting to look forward to it now. The endless rain is getting a tad tedious!

I've had enough of the rain and currently very glad I live on top of a hill! I'm looking forward to going as well and hope there will be 3 of us emigrating.

Bigmomma - hugs to you & your DH. I think you should be eligible for investigative tests and stim drugs on the NHS, only IUI, IVF & ICSI may not be funded (depending on your CCG guidelines). Research what you're entitled to and make sure your GP knows it so they can't fob you off.

PM - how frustrating for you. Can anyone at your current hospital or can your current FS help speed up a new referral in tandem with your GP?

  • Thanks ladies - I am just currently keeping everything crossed. Keeping chin well and truly "up" in front of DH and then weeping when he isn't around LOL :( What a dizzy cow!

The pathology people where DH produced (ahem!) his sample, said between 3-5days... so I reckon I will call the GP on Friday morning... Cos then if they haven't heard anything, they may chase it up - they have done this with bloods for me in the past :o The waiting feels frickin' awful now.

Just out of interest, does anyone else sometimes forget how long its actually been since you have been ttc? Like, I know its a loooong time, but when I write down "3 years+" etc on here, it makes me think "!!!!!! THREE YEARS!?!"

Totally. I can't believe how quickly it's gone. I keep trying to work out how many months I've really tried, and kid myself it's not been that long!

One year at least was cancelled out. Apart from everything else, feels like we were on sex bans for most of 2013 from one operation or another.
  • Hey Bigmomma.
All the PCT's do have different rules, mine the Greater Manchester one allows IVF attempts if one of the partners doesnt have children. In this case it is my partner as I already have 2. Definitely asked to be referred to an FS, actually insist after this long!

And I had my implant out January 15th 2012. Not that I've been counting or anything :D
