    thanks for all the info
  • Personally I would like to see a shift away from free handsets to a more transparent pricing system. I have demanded an upgrade every 12 months in the past because I see the monthly fee as including this. If we had to buy our own phones but were rewarded with a cheaper tariff it could benefit customers (and possibly the environment!) more.

Sim only contracts (and often the retentions deals you get) are a step in this direction.

Speaking of O2 I found this http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/06/29/o2_simplicity/ while surfing. Matches what Stacey was saying.

I dont see why people would want a 18 or 24 mth contract when the phones are only under warranty for 12 months. Then theres the fact phones are outdated so fast. Ive found a few times my phone has been discontinued only 3/4 mths after getting it and at the time it was the latest spec out.
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.

o2 wont offer you anything when you ring. Ive tried sev times and in the end cancelled mycontract.

I told them what Orange were offering and they said now they treat existing customers the same as new customers. They wouldnt give me any half price line rental, extra minutes or cashback.

If you had read the thread fully you would see that the phones are covered by o2 with a longer warranty.

If you look at the market of phones they are pretty much at their capabilities, unless manufacturers can get handsets to cook your dinner and do your dishes, theres no where else really to go. Companies are also realising that not everyone is caught up in having the most up to date and new shiny phone, that maybe there is more important things in life like saving money.

o2 is being transparent in the fact that you pay through the nose for a phone when you take a new one every year.

There will always be room to improve the memory on phones and the camera quality just like they do with camerass. Im sure theyll find a way to introduce other features too.

Of course; nice to know O2 won't be using that as an excuse to entice people to keep up with the Jones!! If you believe that garbage you'll believe anything!!
