Why on earth would you feel that nobody in your circle can get married during this period? Have I missed something or is it just you?
I'm not sure really, I suppose if it was in a year and someone popped in before them they might get a bit stroppy about it but 3 years is such a long time. I've spoken to a few of our friends and they have expressed similar worries, I will pass on your thoughts everyone!0 -

It's certainly not a race, no. I really appreciate the responses, I just didn't want to rock the boat. We might not be engaged by then or we might be married, I just don't want to be accused of stealing thunder
People get engaged and married every day, millions of them. There is no thunder.
As long as you don't, I don't know, try to conceive your first child on the dancefloor at their reception you're ok!0 -

Ahh yes, I remember this thread (partner has an account and he pointed it out to me as was a similar time to brother) - that person was very silly! My brother-in-law (oooh!) is a lovely guy as is fiance just don't want to overshadow them at all!0 -

I have friends who have been engaged years but have no plans to marry!0 -
Only issue I would see as a problem is if you both want weddings abroad and family members couldn't afford bothHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Well, the issue there would be having a wedding abroad and expecting family members to come and pay for themselves.

We only want a small/diy wedding so money shouldn't be as much of a problem as if we were going to whole hog. Plus the girls are both different families, if we are talking traditional
but no we'd be looking to pay for most ourselves

Another quick question. They are having an engagement party in October, does anyone know the etiquette? I've never been to one before.0

I was referring more to the time scales. The time between engagement and marriage varies for many and in essence everyone should do what is right for themselves whatever and whenever that may be. I wouldn't have said the thread was silly, poster felt jealous and vented. I just think people can do what they like when they like its up to you to make your life what you want it regardless of what or when anyone else does anything.0
