    Thanks, I will try that.
  • Just spoken to CPP as I had CPP Identity Protection Alert for one year - and they said I wasn't entitled to a claim as it was sold thru a third party (either my bank or credit card provider- can't remember to be honest) - they are going to send a letter in the post to confirm this - I am still tempted to take it to the financial ombundsman as the polict is in their name - any ideas?

    Dear All,

I have received a letter from the CPP that I have to sign and return for consideration for compensation. It says the original enclosed form must be signed and returned to them by 30th August 2014. There is a policy number on the letter.
My question is Section B of the form wants you to state why you should be considered for compensation. The letter states the box MUST BE FILLED IN. I just wanted to get an idea of what other people have put down as their reasons for this question. I have thoughts of my own but needed to find out if what I am going to write is along similar lines.

    Thanks.

I complained to Barclays about my protection pre 14th Jan 2005 (as well as sending off the CPP forms for post 2005).

I've had a response from Barclays:

' I have looked into the details of your complaint carefully and I am able to advise you your policy was sold to you directly by CPP Ltd. As CPP is a separate entity to Barclays Bank PLC, they must investigate and respond to your complaint. To enable CPP to do this I have forwarded your complaint to them......'

Umm.. what do you make of this. What should my next action be? When I spoke to CPP before penning my complaint to Barclays they were adamant Barclays would be liable.

    Thanks

If you read the various posts in this thread you'll find that exact question has been asked and discussed many times already.

    In short:
    1. The letter they sent you already gives you a number of possible reasons for making a claim.
    2. Read the helpful article that the MSE team have put together that was specifically written to address questions like these:

IIRC it was a "Business Reply" envelope with the appropriate labels and markings, ie postage paid, but not technically "Freepost".

My usual card protection payment of £6.99 hasn't come off my NatWest credit card, so I'm assuming they have my forms and as per the letter, the policy has been cancelled, so hopefully I'll be getting my claim paid out.
  • I first had this insurance way back in the 90's (I think it was with an Access card from Natwest) but those records are long gone. How can I find out when, and from whom, I was sold the policy and from whom can I make a pre-2005 claim?

I've been getting two copies of each of the CPP letters but no indication as to which policy each refers to. I've now returned both forms with identical claim wording as follows. Fingers crossed. (BTW I was able to find how much I'd paid and when by referring to my archived Quicken files, which go back to 1995!)

In 2006 I paid £55 for an M&S "Card Safe" policy (3 years cover) because it seemed to be a low-cost product that addressed the risk of losing wallet and keys, etc. However the renewal premium asked for in 2009 was a lot more expensive so I cancelled the M&S policy and substituted one from CPP direct. This time I paid £50 for three years. By 2012 I had decided the policy wasn't worth renewing at any price, because the supposed benefits I thought I was getting were largely illusory. Banks and credit card companies would have limited my exposure to fraud, and the convenience of having a single number to call to cancel all cards was outweighed by the hassle of continually having to keep the list of registered cards up to date.
I wish I'd never taken these policies out.
