  • In case anyone is interested, I received a cheque from Natwest Bank late last week to refund the amount paid between 1999 and 2005.
Very quick and painless following my sending of a letter based on the MSE template. I adjusted the wording to suit my situation.

I was slightly concerned that the amount was lower than I was anticipating, but a quick call to CPP clarified exactly how much I had spent each year. The premium was considerably lower when I first got the policy!

Amount was a full refund + 8% interest - tax (20% income tax on interest)

Dealing with Natwest was very satisfactory, as was my call to CPP.

One other point of note. Despite the CPP voting form and claim form being sent to my current address, the address CPP had on their records was still my old address. I guess CPP was not one of the organisations that I included in my 'change of address' communication.
I had assumed that as the claim form made it to me, that CPP had the correct info for me, but I was advised that Capita (who are handling the redress scheme) have a completely different database and therefore have discovered my current address by other means.
I have been assured that the mismatch of addresses will not affect my claim, as Capita will be dealing with this rather than CPP

Mine is a rather peculiar case, as I acquired my card protection via one of the banks' schemes whilst an employee. That was >25 years ago, as I took early retirement. I do not recall after such a gap any one advising me, and each year I renewed without thinking, as it gave cover I needed excluding anything that is the subject of mis-selling.

Has anyone got any money back yet??
I returned my CPP claim form about a month back but haven't heard anything yet. Plan to call them this week to make sure they received the form in the first instance.

I take it you didn't return it "signed for" then?!

    I disagree; it's pretty straightforward.
If you're claiming the policy was mis-sold & they agree, they will cancel the policy and give you back the premiums you paid (plus interest). It will then be up to you to find an alternative. If on the other hand you're quite happy with the policy, then you've no reason to claim compensation and you carry on as normal. You can't have it both ways.
    You miss the point
The policy wording was changed in 2011 I think, to address the issues
    The mis-sold policy's were from 2005 to 2011
Up to 2011 will be what's compensated for as it would mean they are still mis-selling
So why cancel this years cover, for what reason, and if they do why no refund on this years premium?
Its not having it both ways at all
The wording is still intimidating "Claim and well cancel"

Same here but it is expected to be 8 weeks under CPP .
Other banks pre 2005 are dealing with the complaints much quicker.

I complained to Citi and Egg all one and the same I know for pre 2005
and had confirmation on both that my complaint is being investigated on one was a request for proof of ID due to new address.

All letters to CPP and the banks were sent proof of delivery at the post office.
    Light travels faster than sound.

This is why some people seem as bright until you hear them.

Great forum, glad to see that I'm not the only one confused! I have found most of the paperwork for CPP since 2008 so should be in a good position to decide what to write on the claim form, but....I can't understand half of it, mainly I don't know if I just had card cover or both card cover and ID protection, can anyone advise me? As a pointer, my renewal for 2014 (if I hadn't cancelled it) would have been £79.99 - would this be for both? It's not at all clear on the policy, so I'd be very grateful for any thoughts you might have.

Rather than have people try and guess what cover you may or may not have, why don't you just phone the CPP Redress Scheme? They'll be able to give you a definitive answer.

No, I didn't; but I kept a copy of the completed form. I will ring them first, and if they say they never received it then i'll request a new form.
