Contacted CPP to see if I was part of the redress scheme, was told no but they could tell me that I had pre 2005 cover with Santander. Wrote letter to them and they offered me £97.00 includes 8% interest but no compensation.

I had also taken cover with Sentinel Gold through First Trust pre 2005 letter sent to First Trust I await their reply.

Sent letter to Sentinel for 2005 to 2013 they tel and offered me £21.95 plus 8% interest for refund of fraud cover only. I rejected as I would not have taken the full cover of lost keys, passports etc.. He then offered me £115 for half refund, rejected again.. Tel back tonite again have offered me full refund of £234 but no 8% interest or compensation..

Should I accept or reject both offers from Santander or Sentinel as I have been told we should be paid interest + compensation for being deprived of this money over the years...

The only "compensation" you will receive is the 8% interest.
  • Hi my policy was pre 2005 and so on phoning CPP I was told to claim through my bank - First Direct. This I did but FD say it's up to CPP! I'm going round in circles - any advice welcome. Thanks

I was told very strongly by a lady from Santander that they don't deal with claims directly after ringing Santander directly. After numerous calls to different people and different departments I finally got put back to CPP scheme and they gave me the number below for Santander.

I finally got through to the correct people and they registered my complaint and I should hear the final result of my reclaim (1997-2004) within 8 weeks.

So to help those others who need to reclaim from Santander the number is 0845 6090 186.

Write to First Direct to complain, stating that contrary to what FD told you, CPP are not liable as they were not subject to mis-selling regulation prior to 14 January 2005, but as a bank, HSBC/FD were subject to relevant regulation.

Trying to fob you off with misinformation is a big no-no and I would stress that you are unhappy with this.

But be certain that you did purchase before 14 Jan 2005.

That was exactly the problem I had, try calling CPP again and asking if they have a contact number for First Direct, they are more likely to have the correct number.

I am confused as the letter says "If you claim compensation you will have cancelled your policy so you (and anyone else covered by the policy) will lose the benefits it provides"
So what about the premium I paid for this years cover?
Will I be offered a new policy?
    isn't that statement intimidating?
    What's the position?

    I disagree; it's pretty straightforward.
If you're claiming the policy was mis-sold & they agree, they will cancel the policy and give you back the premiums you paid (plus interest). It will then be up to you to find an alternative. If on the other hand you're quite happy with the policy, then you've no reason to claim compensation and you carry on as normal. You can't have it both ways.
  • Well I've had no joy. I can't remember who the policy was with so I rang CPP to get the info. They asked me some security questions. They told me the phone number they have on the system is different. I don't have a different number so they must have a wrong number.

They said that they could ask me more security questions so I said "fire away". They asked who the policy was with and when it was taken out. Well, if I knew that, I would have no reason to be ringing you!

So I didn't pass security and they can't give me any info. Great! God only knows how much I've been paying. No claim for me. :(

when claiming mis sold cpp how is compensation calculated is this separate from the 8% interest (or is the 8% interest the compensation)

I have been given an offer for refund of money paid + 8%, not sure if I should persue compensation on top of this for being deprived of this money!!
