Can anyone clear something up for me, I am part of the scheme as I was paying after 2005.
I had a policy 1999 until 2010 - I kept it going as I was told it protected me for the period before notifying the bank of the loss.
My question, do I need to put is a separate claim for the period 1999-2005 or will the whole period be dealt with under the scheme.
I can't find a straight answer on this.

My hubbs has recieved a letter and has no idea that he had CPP ... so no idea of years or accounts. Its a mystery. I have told him not to bin the letter- there is plenty of time, to try and unravel this.
Just phone them up.

Hi All
I have been issued with the claim form and all the previous letters leading up to this point... However i cannot remember what was said in the conversation regarding the cover... as it was a long time ago.
I am unsure of what to say in the reasons for claiming box.. Any advice?
I don't think anyone is going to tell you to lie. If you honestly don't know why you bought the policy then you can't claim it was mis-sold and so no need to apply for any compensation.0 -
I have a policy which sounds similar to the cpp ones but its not them its a company called LSG - can I claim from them?0

Hi
My late father who died 6 years ago, took out CPP's identity theft insurance for both himself and my mum. We are not sure if he also took out the card protection. We do not know whether it was the bank or CPP themselves, but it was a telephone sale and my mum remembers that when he got off the phone he was terrified at what he had been told. At the time I was surprised he had taken it out, because he wasn't the sort of guy to have the wool pulled over his eyes like that!
My mum has had all the various letters and forms through (for her claim but not for my dad) which I have been helping her fill in, and I am about to fill in the final claim form so thanks for the templates!
My 3 questions are:
1) When I fill the claim form in, do I say my late dad bought my mum's policy or will this put the kibosh on the claim?
2) We are not sure whether both ID theft and the card protection was bought, although we know that ID was definitely bought. So should I fill both the forms in anyway and see what happens?
3) It says on this website that my mum can claim for my deceased father's payments into the scheme because she was the sole beneficiary of her will, but I cannot find out how to go about making this claim on her behalf. Note that we do not know if the bank sold it or CPP rang direct, nor have we ever had any correspondence from CPP re my dad's policy. So any assistance on this would be appreciated;
Many thanks,
Nickb
I find myself in a similar situation to you. My mum who is now deceased, had a couple of card protection policies. I noticed these when I took over her finances about 6 years ago. She had Dementia. My Dad never had anything to do with any paperwork so I took over. Se had a number of store cards and credit cards. I noticed she was paying more than one card protection, but can't remember on which cards. I cancelled all her cards as she was not in a fit state to deal with them.
Dad got a letter from CPP. I read it and telephoned them to explain the situation, then I followed it up with a letter. Now they have sent the claim form to me. Mum left a will and all her estate went to my Dad.
I don't know how Mum was sold the policies but I knew she had two covering the same thing. I can only assume that she did not understand, so did what was asked of her.
I am not sure if there is a case or not.Keep on trucking!0 -
But that's exactly why I asked the question, it's not answered clearly in your quote, the two statement contradict each other. If you had a policy sold before 2005, but that was renewed after 2005, you'll form part of the scheme explained above.
You can complain to your bank though if you were mis-sold before 2005.
It really is contradictory for people who span the 2005 date.
It clearly says what to do post 2005 and clearly says what to do pre 2005 but is very ambiguous for people spanning the date.
It leads you to believe that if you started before 2005 and then renewed post 2005 you can put your feet up and let the scheme take care of it, which I'm assuming from what you highlighted is not the case, I'm still not sure even now..0 -
I have had CPP Identity Protection since 2009 and it is still active.
If I cancel this now will this impact my ability to make a claim?
My late husband also had the same cover which I cancelled in June following his death in May. I paid for this annually from my bank account so will I be able to claim against this too?
Hi, I have a letter (arrived two days ago) which states that, if i make a claim then my cover and policy will be cancelled. They advised me last time the policy was due to expire to take out a three year cover - which i did0 -
Hi
Just thought I'd report my success in claiming pre 2005 CPP.
My CPP plan was originally incepted when I held an account with Natwest. That account was closed at least 15 years ago and I didn't have the account number or any statements.
I made a couple of calls to Natwest for the correct address to write to and using MSE's template letter as a guide, I wrote giving my name and addresses (having moved a couple of times I wasn't sure what details they would have on record).
I wrote on 17 Feb and yesterday received a cheque for £71.38. Result!
The address for Natwest, should anyone need it is

Just waiting now for the post 2005 claim response (having submitted the requested documentation to CPP).0 -
But that's exactly why I asked the question, it's not answered clearly in your quote, the two statement contradict each other.
It does not explain if being part of the post 2005 scheme includes claiming for the whole period or just from 2005 on.
It really is contradictory for people who span the 2005 date.
It clearly says what to do post 2005 and clearly says what to do pre 2005 but is very ambiguous for people spanning the date.
It leads you to believe that if you started before 2005 and then renewed post 2005 you can put your feet up and let the scheme take care of it, which I'm assuming from what you highlighted is not the case, I'm still not sure even now.
It's not contradictory and really is quite straightforward.
The compensation scheme is only for policies that were in existence from 2005, regardless of when they started, but will only pay compensation for the period from 2005.
For any policies that were in existence before 2005, compensation claims need directing (for the period up to 2005 only) to the bank or card issuer, for which there is a template letter on this site (as has been stated by a few people in this thread...and 'Ch1ckenlady' above).
I don't think I can put it in a clearer way.0
