If you had a policy sold before 2005, but that was renewed after 2005, you'll form part of the scheme explained above.
[one typo and one spelling mistake corrected in the above Martin]
I have received a letter from CPP even though the original policy was named Midland CardGuard, and was issued in 1993 at the latest. I remember the date because my son was 7 when we visited Germany and my Midland National Trust Visa card was refused almost everywhere.
I wasn't considering making a claim, as at the time I saw the main benefit being that they would handle the reporting and other issues for all of the many cards I had registered with them.
However I did later receive a letter from Egg expressing concern that my Egg card was "unprotected" and pushing the CPP policy under a different name, even though the Egg card was already registered with CardGuard. That really would have counted as mis-selling had I been pressurised into taking out a duplicate policy. I'm sure that many people would have been duped in this way.0 -

Hi
My late father who died 6 years ago, took out CPP's identity theft insurance for both himself and my mum. We are not sure if he also took out the card protection. We do not know whether it was the bank or CPP themselves, but it was a telephone sale and my mum remembers that when he got off the phone he was terrified at what he had been told. At the time I was surprised he had taken it out, because he wasn't the sort of guy to have the wool pulled over his eyes like that!
My mum has had all the various letters and forms through (for her claim but not for my dad) which I have been helping her fill in, and I am about to fill in the final claim form so thanks for the templates!
My 3 questions are:
1) When I fill the claim form in, do I say my late dad bought my mum's policy or will this put the kibosh on the claim?
2) We are not sure whether both ID theft and the card protection was bought, although we know that ID was definitely bought. So should I fill both the forms in anyway and see what happens?
3) It says on this website that my mum can claim for my deceased father's payments into the scheme because she was the sole beneficiary of her will, but I cannot find out how to go about making this claim on her behalf. Note that we do not know if the bank sold it or CPP rang direct, nor have we ever had any correspondence from CPP re my dad's policy. So any assistance on this would be appreciated;
Many thanks,

After I heard about the CPP misselling & noting that I have had Barclaycard Sentinel for about 15 years, I phoned up Barclaycard & after a few days they wrote to me offering compensation, which amounted to a full refund of all the payments I had made and 8% simple inflation, & the refund I got was over £500.
It was no hastle at all with Barclaycard Sentinel & I never had to fill out any forms. Contact Barclaycard direct, not Sentinel.0 -
Can anyone clear something up for me, I am part of the scheme as I was paying after 2005.
I had a policy 1999 until 2010 - I kept it going as I was told it protected me for the period before notifying the bank of the loss.
My question, do I need to put is a separate claim for the period 1999-2005 or will the whole period be dealt with under the scheme.
I can't find a straight answer on this..0 -
Hi All
I have been issued with the claim form and all the previous letters leading up to this point... However i cannot remember what was said in the conversation regarding the cover... as it was a long time ago.
I am unsure of what to say in the reasons for claiming box.. Any advice?0 -
My hubbs has recieved a letter and has no idea that he had CPP ... so no idea of years or accounts. Its a mystery. I have told him not to bin the letter- there is plenty of time, to try and unravel this.0
