  • I've had a policy with CPP for about 20 years and it's only costing me £70 for 3 years cover, so not a lot of money. I renewed in September 2012 so still have 18 months to run but if I claim compensation the policy will be cancelled so it hardly seems worth the effort.. I believe they took out the offending bits in 2011 so I can claim for 7 years (2005 -2011) worth of payments which is about £150 less £50 they paid out for the loss of a Nectar card, so I'm not sure it's worth claiming unless CPP are going to refund what's left of my 3 year premium! I'm still going to have to find another insurer. Would appreciate any advice.......... thanks
  • Hi i'm getting confused with who to send a letter to.

I have received my compensation letter but need to know if I send this back then this cancels any compensation possible for protection plans sold prior to this date.

I have my original policy letter form 1996 with reference to RBS Avanta application and that I was now covered by comprehensive cover by CPP.
However I have not held an advanta card for many years and this has automatically been renewed without notice from my bank account including September 2014, and I have only after sometime only recently been able to update my details and address (I had advised coa but never received responses)

In the Template for redress it says I need Bank account N & A and account number plus statements - I do not have any for RBS as it was a long time ago and I only have the CPP policy reference - should I be sending the letter to them requesting compensation for miselling?

I'm sure I cant be the only person with similar query but if you can assist me it would be helpful - otherwise I can only claim for since 2005.

    Thanks

Whilst intending to claim I have similar concerns over replacement cover once cpp cover is cancelled since have always valued the one call to replace all type protection. In my case fortunately existing cover due to run out at the end of 2014 so I am not losing out too much. Martin's main message said he welcomed other queries and I think this must affect many people who might even be reluctant to claim because of the lack of cover and need to start over. Will CPP themselves migrate existing details into a new policy which excludes the misleading elements and is possibly cheaper?
  • Am I the only forumite that finds this thread terrifically sad?
  • Hello There

I have received my CPP letter, which states categorically that I will only receive compensation for the fees paid since 14 January 2005 (when the product first became regulated). However, in the CPP Guide on here, for pre 2005 fees, it says:

"If you had a policy sold before 2005, but that was renewed after 2005, you'll form part of the scheme explained above."

I was (mis!) sold my policy in 2002 when I had my purse stolen. It was renewed each year after that until 2008. I then cancelled it, as I discovered the same 'cover' was also included in my fee-paying packaged bank account, so I was paying twice for the same thing! (That'll be another one to look into!).

Can anyone clarify the position please, in the circumstances where the policy was taken out pre 2005, but ran continuously until cancellation post 2005? Do I claim all through the CPP redress scheme? Or go back to the bank for pre 2005 fees?

Also, I no longer have bank statements going back that far, and my online records only go back to 2007. So I personally do not have hard evidence to submit. Can I throw that one back to the bank, as they ought to have the records?

Thanks for guidance/advice that anyone can offer.

    Sharon

You need to speak to your bank about the pre-2005 portion of your policy.

Just had my second CPP letter - Section B states "Why you want to be considered for compensation"...

Silly question... but what should I be putting here?? I know I had one of the cards they mention (Egg) but know very little else in all honesty

would appricate any help, thank you.

My position is fairly similar and I am currently awaiting advice promised by Martin on Monday (24/2) about how to complete the form. I think I know what to do but see no problem in waiting for advice from the expert.

My other issue, which may apply to you, is how to go about organising alternative cover to replace this, if indeed this is worthwhile. I am thinking in particular of the advantage of one phone call to organise replacement multiple cards in the event of say a lost/stolen wallet. Having cancelled this cover (via claim) can one then sign up again with CPP under their less misleading newer wordings and presumably at lower charges, or should one go elsewhere, and if so where?

P.s. Message for Martin, I would think a paragraph or two from you on this one might be widely of interest, but not sure how to address a message to you?

I also would appreciate guidance on an alternative service that provides one phone call if a wallet is lost/stolen

Martin no longer reads or responds to this forum…

In addition, it won't be Martin Lewis who writes the MSE advice article expected on Monday-that will come from an MSE staff member.
