I had card protection around the time of 1999, I want to write to the bank to complain, and have downloaded the template letter from here.

Part of the letter states -
"I enclose copies of my statements dating back to when the first payment was taken and any related documents"
    [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]
I am unable to obtain any statements from that far back, but know the insurance was on the account.

How am I supposed to enclose statements I don't have?

Barclaycard specifically says that if it is a card related claim you don't have to supply documents.

You have to use this link for Barclaycard claims:

Thanks, but this is for PPI, and I'm looking to claim 'card protection insurance'?

Ah, understood. To clarify this link is for CPP mis-selling specifically linked to Barclaycard.

  • All the paperwork I have had explains they will cancel your CCP policy for you when you claim the compensation. Although there doesn't appear to be a need, I think it would look better when someone looks at your claim if it is already cancelled as it shows you don't want it or have a need for it. I'm not sure whether to cancel mine (I have cancelled direct debit) as they renewed it for another 3 years last June then I realised in the September they had been ripping me off and was too late to get any of my £90.00 back. It's not like car/house insurance where you get a refund for the remainder of the term. I think this in itself is totally wrong.

Also I don't know if they are giving refunds out for renewals made past 2011. There is questions and answers that came out with the form and it explains they changed their mis-leading card policy wording in 2011 from the policy wording in 2005.

So if they re-newed your policy after 2011 when their terms had changed this reads to me as though you may not get compensation even if you held policy from 2005 when they was mis-selling. I think it is possible it is not explained very well.

On all their other letters it indicates anyone who took out the policy after 2005 are eligible for all the money they have paid into the policy back plus interest. Also if they are cancelling peoples policies then all those people would have taken a policy out after 2011 to be having it cancelled and if they decide to cancel your policy they should return the money anyway.

I called to clarify this but I don't think the staff on the phone know themselves. Have been told by one person I will get all money back from 2007 to 2011 and someone else said go by the latest letter as possible they have changed this. Their latest letter was the one that included the questions and answers, so not a great deal of help.

    Anyone else confused with this?

As you say yourself, there is no need to do this prior to complaint.
I'm not sure whether to cancel mine (I have cancelled direct debit)
If you cancel the Direct Debit before actually cancelling the policy you are going to build up unpaid debt when the Bank return the DDs without actually paying them. Not a wise move on your part.
  • How do I find out what I had CPP on? I have the letter but have no idea what it was on, could have beenn M&S or Barclaycard. Me thinks I obviously was mis-sold it as I did not know I had it. I do have a "unique" code number so they must know what it ws on but I don't know how to find out? I knew what I had PPI on.

As I had not had a letter about compensation, I rang CPP and they told me mine was issued via Barclaycard and to contact them.

I've not had a letter at all and i think the first ones were sent out july/august last year. At that time i had moved out of my old house and hadn;t let the bank know (was a quick move) so any of my post may have been binned by my ex.
Was a barclaycard so is it worth calling and findng out although i'm sure i say no to any form of insurance/protection on any product.

This number is all you need to complain. Why do you need to know exactly which card it was?
