  • I had a card protection policy with Cardwise sold to me by Midland Bank. Cardwise was no longer the preferred supplier in 1991 and Midland Bank changed the supplier seamlessly to CPP. I am claiming with CPP for premiums paid post-2005 through the scheme of compensation.

Has anybody experience of a claim on HSBC, the successor to Midland Bank, for refunding of pre-2005 CPP premiums? And also on a claim on HSBC for Cardwise premiums?

    Advice welcome, please.
    Thanks
  • I have now been sent a claim form from CPP. There is a small section in which I have to say why I am claiming. No mention of how I took out the ID protection policy in the first place. I believe it was thru Barclaycard not direct to CPP.
Any hints please on what I should say - thanks for any help anyone can give

I have also received a claim form this morning but dont know what to put in the box as i dont know what i am claiming for. I did not know i had it but there is a policy number on the letter so i must have. Any ideas would be useful
  • me too..I received the claim form this morning and I'm not sure either what to write in the box 'why you want to be considered for compensation'.
I just want to make sure that what I write is clear and concise, short and straight to the point.
Any ideas would be much appreciated as I'm pretty useless at this sort of thing.
    Many thanks in advance:)

Same got the Letter Yesterday, just need to complete the "'why you want to be considered for compensation'" Box. Guess you just need to re-word the reason why you been chosen for compensation saying the cover was not suitible for your needs? and Martin Lewis told me to do it LOL

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my take on things: if we took out this protection knowing full well what it represented, i.e. cover/insurance against certain eventualities (loss of job/income, credit card stolen and maxed out), then we have no grounds for a claim.

If, on the other hand, we were under the impression that this was mandatory, and there were no other way to proceed with a financial product, then there are grounds for compensation?
  • I have used the template letter just stating I believe I was mis-sold the product I have. Then add the refund and interest bit.
Quick to the point and simple.

    Yes and no... ;)

Whilst you may have fully understood what it represented you might not have been aware that some of the cover was nugatory. For example, banks were already obliged to cover fraud anyway and thus you didn't need to purchase such cover separately.

It is the 'knowing full well what it represented' bit that's the issue. CPP misstated some 'facts' and so if these contributed in any way to your knowledge and subsequent decision to buy then you are entitled to redress.

That is one example for justified entitlement but there are others as the article describes.
  • This is what I have written
If its wrong please advise as posting in morning

    Unique reference Number
    Policy Number

    Sir,

I would like to be considered for compensation against the card protection policy that I took out with you due to the following reasons:
I was told I needed it for the fraud protection
    • The risk of ID fraud was overstated, scaring me into getting the product
    • CPP hiked the price and didn't tell me
    • My policy auto-renewed and I didn't have time to cancel
    Hope this helps
  • I've written a very similar statement to JABwootten.
Short and sweet and straight to the facts.
    Thankyou everyone for your replies.
