I have just received a cheque for one of my claims (Yay!) from a Card Protection Policy from Mint between February 2004 (I realise they won't look any further back than January 2005) - August 2008 and the amount I have received back is £31.61 inc interest and with tax deducted (in the breakdown of the amount, CPP specify that the original refund for my policy payments is £20).

So, if the policy was running for at least 2 full years (Jan 2005 - Jan 2007), how come my basic refund is less than even the £30 Martin has stated the card protection policy amount would have actually been?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to receive anything back, but it just doesn't seem like a lot for that kind of duration.

    Cheers! :-)

I'm in pretty much the same position you're in. Ultimately, I no longer have any of the documents to indicate what I was paying to Mint back in 2004-2008, so I don't really have much of a leg to stand on. The refund they have provided doesn't 'seem' enough, but I can't confirm it, so I'll probably just take the money and let this one go - after all, it wouldn't have been more than about £30-40 more than what I received anyway and life is too short to toil after that kind of money. ;-)

    Can anyone offer any advice?
Stop prevaricating and just fill in the form for him. You don't need to look for or at old statements…

Be quick about it too, the refund scheme ends this month!
  • Like many other forum users I question the fairness of only being able to claim back to 2005. I understand the argument for the ruling but it seems to me if CPP and banks/credit card companies acted inappropriately after 2005 they also did so before 2005.
I note the comments that indicate a possible claim for pre 2005 mis-selling can be directed toward banks/credit card companies. Helpful and I may do this but where do I/we stand if we send in the the current claim form for post 2005 miselling because we have to sign an agreement to "release CPP, Business Partners and Business Partner Affiliates from any further liability for any claims." (abbreviated quote)
I would be interested in hearing forum user views before I post my claim form.
Also if anyone has successfully claimed from a bank/credit card company for pre 2005 mis-selling.

I've received a claim form but I'm darned if I can remember what card/policy it would even relate to! What have others done in this circumstance?

If there's money owed to me, I want to claim it but I'm unsure as to what to put on the claim form...

Am just filling out my CPP claim form and realise that once I claim, my policy will be cancelled. I am fine with that, but one thing I always thought was great about CPP was that I have a key ring that meant that if I lost my keys and someone found them they could drop them in a postbox and the keys would be sent to CPP to the address on the keyring who would then return them to me.

Any feedback from the forum or MSE people on the best alternatives to this handy benefit?
  • Back in 2012 I purchased a Ford Fiesta from a local Ford agent. Because the model I chose had been superseded by a new one and there was clearly an incentive to the dealer to "shift the metal" there was an offer of a £1250.00 discount by Ford to induce me to buy. However, the dealer insisted that I must also take out a loan with Ford Finance to purchase the vehicle - despite my having no need for a loan. It was either "take the loan or you don't get the car because this is a condition imposed by Ford" so I was obliged to do so, encouraged by the dealer stating that the loan could be paid off within a week or two if I wished. I suspected that it was the dealer aiming to benefit from the loan rather than a condition imposed by Ford but could not prove it.

I reluctantly accepted the arrangement (because I particularly wanted the car due to its spec and colour) and did indeed pay off the loan after a week or two - but of course I lost out on the arrangement fees, etcetera, to the tune of £252.00. Now, looking at the original purchase documentation I’m not even sure that the £1250.00 discount was implemented (a check on the published list price (if still available) for that particular model would be necessary.

There is no indication on the “fordAcquire” documentation that the loan was mandatory – and I specifically declined the Protected Payments Plan section of the hire purchase agreement. Whatever, was this a case of mis-selling and is there any redress?
  • Just realised there is a VERY significant typo in my last post. It should have started "Back in 2002..." NOT 2012!

    Apologies.

More to the point it's in the wrong thread - this is about Card Protection Plan!

    Hi all

I have had an HSBC cardguard policy for years. I've received the CPP letter and am going to claim. I have been looking through all the Cardguard policy details and have found a leaflet outlining what cover I receive but it states 'Up to £50,000 after notification' and not the £100,000 that is on Martin's template and the CPP letter.

Do you think it's worth amending the statement to refer to the £50,000 which I can evidence if necessary?

    Grateful for your thoughts.

I'm in exactly the same position. I received one of these letters, but I have no record of the card from which it came from (I only retain the last 6 years of statements and it's not with any of those). The form asked questions I had no way of answering, so just decided in the end to chuck it away.

I am pretty confident I wouldn't have had a card with on of these expensive protection policies for long, because I usually categorically state I do not want them when I take out a new card. But now I am intrigued and would like some way of finding out before it's too late.

    Can anyone help?
