Just to let you all know I filled in the letter I was sent RE CPP recovery, used the provided templates by the link, sent it of two'ish months ago and today I received a cheque for £325.76.

So, If you get a letter - fill it in!

You can complain about mis-selling from any retailer, not just banks. Write to T-Mobile.

I contacted NatWest about a credit card I had with them from 1997, not knowing or remembering if I had paid PPI or not. I received a call a week or two later from one of their representatives and asked if I minded answering a few question. I agreed and the guy told me I had been paying not PPI, but CPP. However, a week or so after the conversation, I received a letter from the NatWest Rep, telling me I had ticked the box for CPP cover, but no mark could be seen on the original card application. They sent me a copy of the original application and the box is clearly blank. Their argument was, as I had received numerous card statements and had not commented previously, I would have been completely aware I was paying CPP. I remember seeing the deductions for CPP, but was under the impression this was cover against credit card fraud, should my card be compromised. I was told if I wasn't happy with their conclusion, to call back to discuss. I tried several times to talk to the original rep, but he was never available for comment. I was told to go to the ombudsman if I wasn't happy, but I only had 6 months to register a complaint with them, or I would lose any chance of a successful claim. Could anybody advise me if this is true? I was going to just drop it, as it is nearly a year ago now, but I thought I would check with the experts on here first. Many thanks in advance.
  • Hi
New to this so hope I'm doing it right. I received my cheque for CPP claim prior to 14/1/05. I also wrote asking for comp for premiums paid prior to that date as I have been paying since 1992. They sent letter saying would hear within 8 weeks which have passed, have just written back asking for response by 11th August, if not will forward to Ombudsman.

Wondered if anyone has actually been successful with claim prior to 14th January 2005?

two claim forms arrived. one for my son, the other to a Mr H. we don't have an H, just S,K and M. i vaguely remember something years ago that used to arrive addressed to Mr H but I cant remember what and who it was for. something is ringing a bell about my son buying a new car in 1998 and the car dealer sent two letters out with two different registrations and i'm thinking one of those was to Mr H so I wonder if that is where it started- I remember thinking they might send two new cars instead of one!but as it wouldn't apply to car finance, it wont be that. I thought maybe it is my husband as we had card protection but I think it was with Sentinel.
I will try phoning the help number but I am not sure if they will even speak to me as data protection may prevent them. I could identify the policy by how it was paid but I don't have any bank statements etc. And, if my husband fills it in and sort of squiggles his K to look a bit like an H and says he is called Heith, the cheque would arrive in that name and he couldn't cash it anyway

No, as already stated, the CPP scheme only covers the period post 2005.
Only if you have renewed after 2005 will you be eligible and, even then, you are only refunded post 2005 payments.

Not at all. As I told you on the 13th May 2014, you have to complain to BOS for the earlier period.

I am so glad you do not find the wording confusing.

However I do, or perhaps a better word would be ambiguous, which it certainly could be said to be.

If a page of instructions doesn't cover all the possibilities, is it not helpful to find that out?

Hopefully constructive criticism can serve to clarify the rather (deliberately) arcane CPP rules and help those visitors to this page who come as I do for guidance through this process.

Regardless of the "confusing" wording, I first told you back in May that you must complain to BOS for pre-2005 complaints. I even linked to the clearly written MSE article about it. Now here we are almost in August and we are still having a dialogue about it?
Surely your additional complaint should have been completed by now?
