Hi, wonder if someone can help with my query, i've received the letter with the claim form from CPP, which i believe relates to an Egg card i had. I'm sure its the only card I ever had the CPP policy with. It went to an old address but fortunately my friend still lives there and didn't bin it as junkmail!

I've had a rummage through my 'filing system' (aka the drawer of crap), and the only Egg statement I can find is a home printed one, with no account number on it, but there on the statement is a payment for 'Credit Card Repayment Protector', which I believe is the CPP payment. However, the statement is for 2003...

Now as this CPP claim scheme is covering payments from 2005 onwards and they have sent me the letter, i'm guessing my policy continued after that date... So, if i claim, will they only pay back (assuming they pay at all) to the start of 2005 even though the policy started before then? Would I have to raise a second claim even though its all part of the same single policy?

    Yes, you can read all the details here;
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/CPP-card-protection

    For anything prior to 2005 you have to complain to the financial institution who originally sold it to you. In your case Egg (now known as Canada Square operations). Details at the same link as above;

To support MSE I only thought it is fair to advise that

I received a cheque for £235.55 for premiums and interest
Very good result considering over the period I was also covered for the main risk of CC Loss

In the period of time I have had CCP I unfortunately had to make a claim while on Holiday
While in Ibiza my wife's purse was stolen
I was bloody glad I had CCP as the service was excellent, providing emergency cash etc.
Unfortunate that they got themselves into this position and for the record I will be renewing my policy with CCP

Using the templates here on MSE I sent a letter to the HSBC to reclaim my pre 2005 HSBC CardGaurd payments which HSBC have responded to saying they are unable to uphold my complaint.

From reading other peoples comments in this thread this just looks to be a standardized letter response and not one which was personalized to the points I made in my original letter.

Here is the letter I received from the HSBC:

    pdf-archive.com/2014/05/04/doc040514

Please add the www. to the start of the above web address as this site wont let me post direct links.

Does anyone have pre 2005 HSBC CardGaurd letters as I am struggling to find mine or documents for the policy pre 2005?

I received exactly the same letter. It is obviously one churned out to everyone who has made a complaint. How nice of them to include a leaflet on how to contact the ombudsman as well.
I've managed to dig out letters from 2002 & 2005 from CardGuard in relation to my policy with them, although this does not seem to have made any difference to HSBC. Just wondering how to word my complaint now to the ombudsman. Is there a template for this at all?

I sent a letter to my branch of Natwest in London about 10 weeks ago, they did not bother to reply.

What was the address you sent your letter to? Or shall I go to the Ombudsman?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Not sure if you still need this info or not, but I wrote to a couple of places in Natwest as I was not sure where best to send to.

The reply (and the cheque) came from:

    Natwest
    Cards Customer Services
    Customer Care Team
    PO Box 5747
    Southend-on-Sea
    SS1 9AJ

This should be good for you, assuming you had the policy in relation to a Natwest credit card.

I claimed for my Egg Card policy through the scheme for payments from 2005, and sent a letter to the address below, to Barclay, for payments prior to 2005, with success on both counts. Use MSE templates.

  • We've paid our CPP cheque in several weeks ago but the £320 was debited by our bank 2 weeks later (as if the cheque had bounced) as CPP's bank won't credit the cheque . Having real problems getting CPP to find out what's going on - our bank can't seem to do much either - has anyone else had this problem?

This might be a stupid question but was the cheque actually payable to you by name. Mine was made out to " policyholder only" and I had to send it backto be changed. I am now waiting for a replacement to come, and it has been over 2 weeks

Yes, BargainSpotter, HSBC's policy is not to recognise any pre 2005 CPP claims and has reckoned that by taking this position they will save considerable admin and refund costs compared with treating each claim on its merits. 'Our CPP marketing material was clear, there was no mis-selling, you bought the product, there is no claim to consider. Tough luck! If you think differently, go to the Ombudsman'.

The procedure for involving the Ombudsman is straightforward - you can download the necessary forms.

And before Moneyineptitude wades in, the discussion points for this Forum are : will dissatisfied HSBC customers vote with their feet, and if thousands of HSBC customers complain to the Ombudsman, can he cope when Ombudsman referrals are already taking many months to resolve? And if not, is HSBC being really irresponsible?

I'd expect the number referring complaints to the Ombudsman to be in the hundreds, not thousands. This is card protection-not PPI.
But then, what do I know?:p
