Hi, i am still not 100% sure about Orange and would still like a definate answer, but there are different terms and conditions available on the Orange site for "Animal Package" via Orange direct and via an Orange partner. I have recently taken out two Orange contracts via Orange partners and i have not received any texts stating that i cannot ring 07744. In fact i have used 07744 973249 on both accounts and all calls show as free. I also use this number on T-Mobile and my mate uses it on Virgin. We are 'sorted' for the moment with this but i thought you may be interested to know that the carphone warehouse allow the use of 0870 etc on their o2 contracts. I was going to cancel both my o2 with them but now have them upgraded with full cashback and able to use 0870 0415649. I hope this helps out if rumour about Orange is correct. Go to Carphone Warehouse and switch to o2.0

I spoke to orange today, to get some idea of what is actually going on.
The man i spoke to, told me that the policy had changed, and that orange were no longer charging for 07744 numbers!!! But it turned out he didnt have a clue what was going on.
Then i spoke to a nice lady. She said the policy has changed, and it applies to ALL orange users, not just on some packages, or some dates etc.
I asked if i could cancel.. and she told me that this was with the legal team. They are talking to ofcom, and the legal team will let them know in a few days, what they were to do.
She said it would take a maximum of 4 weeks for the legal team to come back with an answer. I told her that the terms and conditions on the website state that the contract has to be canceled within 30 days of the terms and conditions change...
She said to call back every couple of days to see if they had a definite answer from the legal team.... so still....

Hi,
I am thinking to write to Orange compalining and requesting diconnection due to change of terms and conditiosn.
Can anyone draft a letter?
Thanks
Mo0 -
I do,nt have any new updates, the latest what i and other members have confirmed is orange is going to charge all customers irrespective of date and package. I got two contracts before Mar 2007 and most of the minustes were to use 07744 to call back india and srilanka. Know there is no other option apart from cancelling the contract.
If any body has draft the legal letter for termination of the contract may post it on the forum will really help lots of people.
I think if we include all details by referencing and reflecting all written and verbal details that orange passed to different customers on different occassions regarding the use of 07744 numbers forexample
1. when last time orange start charging customers for this number, somebody posted email reply received from orange management stating that they have sorted the things and now customer will use the service to dial 07744 nos without problem.
2. There ever changing terms and conditions
Any idea and suggestion to draft a legal notice of termination will help many of us0 -
I have just spoken to Ofcom, and told them of the situation.
I explained that i would like to cancle my contract, but have been advised by orange that i will need to waite till a decision is made by their legal department. I also explained that the terms and conditions state that the contract can be cancled only within 30 days of the terms and condition.
I have been told to contact orange in writing to say that i want to cancle my contract asap due to the change in terms and conditions.
So i am now writing a letter to orange to that effect, and will be sending it recorder deliverym asking for a responce.
And that would be my suggestion to others as well.. may be they will rethink when they get a load of letters all saying the same thing.Nothing ever lasts forever...0 -
I am in such a complaning mood today.
I have just written a letter to orange... going to try to post it...
To
Whom it may concern
I am contacting you in reference to my Orange mobile contracts, account no , I have two mobile telephones with this contract the numbers being ,
I would like to cancel my contract, without the early cancellation charges due the change of terms and conditions being brought in by you on the 8th June 2007.
Tariff Terms and Conditions changes, effective 8 June 2007 are shown below:
Offers and promotions
PAYM Animal Packages
1. These terms and conditions apply to new and existing customers connecting or upgrading to a Dolphin, Canary, Racoon or Panther “Animal Package” via Orange direct between 1 March 2007 and 31 July 2007.
2. Connection is subject to status and a 12, 18 or 24 month minimum term contract (or such longer minimum connection period as stated in your agreement with Orange).
3. Existing customers will be subject to the Our Customers First terms and conditions.
4. You will not be able to switch to a lower Service Plan for the first 6 months of a 12 month contract, the first 9 months of an 18 month contract or the first 12 months or a 24 month contract. After the first 6, 9 and 12 months, as appropriate, you may switch to the next lowest value Service Plan once only for the remainder of your contract term. You are able to switch to an equivalent or higher Service Plan at any time.
5. Your Anytime Any Network Minutes include UK calls to Orange phones, standard UK landlines (those beginning with 01/02), other UK mobile networks and Orange answerphone. Calls to 08 and 09 numbers are not included in bundle and will be charged up to a maximum of 35p/min and £1.70/min or per call for 09 numbers. See the price guide for details. Calls to 07744 and 07755 numbers are not included in bundle and will be charged at a flat rate of 20p/min. If you do not use your inclusive minute allocation for the month it will not rollover to the next month.
6. Charges for payments not made by direct debit will be applied as set out in the price guide. Charges will also apply for itemised billing as set out in the price guide. Itemised bills can be viewed online via My Account.
7. Your text allowance is for standard person to person text messages sent within the UK. If you do not use your messaging allocation for the month it will not rollover to the next month.
8. Out of bundle texts will be charged at your Service Plan rate.
9. With the exception of clause 4 above where there is any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and the Terms and Conditions for the supply of Orange Network Services the latter will prevail.
10. Orange reserves the right to replace or amend the Service Plans or these terms and conditions or to withdraw the Service Plans at any time without notice.
11. References to Orange in these terms and conditions are to Orange Personal Communications Services Limited whose registered office is at St James Court, Great Park Road, Almondsbury Park, Bradley Stoke, Bristol, BS32 4QJ.
Your terms and conditions state that:
4.3 You may also terminate your Contract if we vary its terms, resulting in an excessive increase in the Charges or changes that alter your rights under this Contract to your detriment. In such cases you would need to give us at least 14 days written notice prior to your Billing Date (and within one month of us telling you about the changes).
Your change in terms an d conditions in terms of charging telephone calls to 07744 numbers means that I will be excessively charged for this service, which was not the case when I took out this contract, and not the terms and conditions I signed.
I feel this is ground for me to terminate my contract with yourselves, without buying out my remaining months, and would like this to be taken as my notice to cancel this contract.
I would also like a response in writing to my correspondence.
I would also like to add, that I came to Orange, due to your excellent reputation, in your dealing with customers. But I feel that my views have changed, due to the way these terms and conditions have been brought in. A notice of a text message the day the terms and conditions are changing I feel is not sufficient. And also, not everyone using a mobile phone has access to the Internet, in order to be able to read the change in terms and conditions. I feel that you have unfairly targeted people taking out contracts during a particular period.
And I also found that when I called your customer service department, I received, wrong and incorrect information from a number of your representatives. I have actually been told by a representative that the 07744 calls used to be charged and are now not charged!

Hi wdycai,
What address are you sending the letter to?
Thanks

I was on the phone to Orange customer services this afternoon after finding out a few days late (no text to me) that I was being charged for the 07744 calls I'd made. This is despite my being on a contract via e2save purchased last November. The new T&C would suggest that I was safe from this change, the £5+ of call charges on my bill does not. However, the guy refunded it no problems.
My argument to him was that my problem was less with the change in the T&C and more with the utter lack of informing me: I received no text, had to find about it myself, they're required to give month's notice, etc. All the while being extremely reasonable and polite.
So if people haven't already, get reclaiming those pounds.
Of course, in truth, I do have a major problem with this change to the T&C but at least I've got the first step done of not having a surprise on my bill. I'm in a better position than some because my gf from Trinidad is visiting next week for a few months so the need to call her disappears and also my contract is one of those dirt-cheap-send-your-bill-off-for-cashback-every-five-minutes deals.
But for everyone else, keep up the good work, people. Without the heads up from this thread I'd have been financially butchered by the end of the month.

 What are 07744/07755 numbers? Sorry to appear thick, Colin0
