    Hi all,

Someone asked if an Orange insider could clarify this. Well I work for Orange and I will try and clear thing up if I can.

The new charges only apply to customers who have taken a new contract or upgraded after 1st March 2007 from either an Orange high street store, the Orange website or Over the phone directly with Orange and are on an animal package.

If the above doesn’t apply to you then you will continue to be able to call 07744 and & 07755 from your any network minutes.

Also somebody mentioned cancelling the contract due to the changes resulting in excessive charges. This is covered under the Animal Packages Terms & Conditions which state:

Your Anytime Any Network Minutes include UK calls to Orange phones, standard UK landlines (those beginning with 01/02), other UK mobile networks and Orange Answer Phone.

As these numbers are not covered by the above Orange could have been charging for them along time ago but haven’t.until they have fully investigated the situation.

As for why it is only customers who have taken a contract or upgraded after 1st March I do not know the answer to this but will try and find out.

I hope this is of help to you guys.

    Hello,
I bought the contract in a Phones4u shop on the 7th of May and so not directly with Orange. Nevertheless, I still received the sms stating that from the 8th of June they will start charging 07744 numbers at 20p/min. I haven't checked if I am actually charged yet. I contacted customer services (several times), and was told terms like "illegal numbers", etc. which left me rather worried about the training these people have undergone. It is possible that they have been told to say that.
I called Ofcom on 02079813040 and they appeared to be very interested in the case. They have already a number of callers who complained so it is worth calling them, in order to assist them in starting/proceeding with an investigation.
Also we need to first make a complaint to Orange and if we are not satisfied with the outcome (after 12 weeks) then we can refer the matter to CISAS (Communications & Internet Services Adjudication Scheme) at 020752038727.
The address where the initial complaint needs to be sent is (recorded delivery):

    Orange
    High Level Complaints Department
    P.O. 73
    Leeds
    LS10 1WZ

You need to mention that this appears to be a breach of T&C as it alters the bill and it decreases the value of the contract to you, and also (VERY IMPORTANT) you need to mention that they started charging without giving a month's notice, which is unfair policy and can be deemed illegal, and thus is a good reason to cancel the contract.

Maybe you should check as I have spoken to several customers who have received the text who it doesn't apply to. When I have checked they have not been charged.

07744/07755 is a mobile network issued number as per Ofcom & Orange ( or the others ) cannot overrule Ofcom, regardless if Orange decide to exclude them as they are now " callling cards ", the termination fees Orange pay ARE to a mobile network ( Dolphin, On 31st July 2004 the network was finally switched off & then sold to Inquim who now provide the service we use ) and Ofcom state this, Ofcom has the power to ensure Inquim stop using these numbers as " call through " numbers yet why do they fail to do anything ? Beacause Orange - Inquim are seen as x net UK - UK calls regarless of the service they provide, Orange cannot dictate its competitors services either for that matter
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • Well one of my mates a got a text from orange
    It came up as orangeupdate.
07744 calls still inclusive unless you changed to an animal tariff between 1st march and 31st july 2007 directly with orange.see https://www.orange.co.uk/termsupdate.

So i rang orange and they said yes thats true but if you connected to orange b4 1st of march and you changed your tariff after 1st of march 2007 you will still be charged.

Thats the latest i have got.
My mate got the text at 1315 but i haven't heard anythng like this from anybody else.

Why did they not give any notice?

Why did they start charging before for calls to these numbers, then allowing them? They knew full well what they are normally used for.

    This is very very silly.

I am on an Orange contract, i've been with orange for ten years, and last upgraded in January. So according to peddys post (quoted) AND after reading the terms and conditions it would be fair to say that the charge does not apply to me. For the record I have been calling 07744 numbers before June and I have never been charged.

I called Customer Services today and I checked whether I have been charged for 07744 calls I made on the 11th of June, and believe it or not, I HAVE!

This is clearly an inaccurate charge. That or Orange have no idea what they are talking about. The Customer Service representatives unfortunately have no idea what on earth is going on, considering I have spoken to two, and one started fighting with me, the other said he would call me back tomorrow.

I've printed out the current version of their TCs on the site and attached it here, should they decide to change it on the sly.

Any ideas on where to take this would be helpful.

    Hello again,

although I bought the phone through phones4u I still got charged for a phone call on the 11th of June. And this follows a text message from Orange saying that I will not be charged!
I called up Orange and I talked with a manager, who informed me that there has been some confusion and the billing department has sent messages to everybody regarding the new charges introduced, but without having contacted the legal department first. He confirmed that we may terminate the contract as more charges will be incurred by us under clause 4.3 of their T&C, and so at the moment the legal department are looking into it.
He said that it is possible that they may refund any charges incurred and try some different approach. I am going to cancel anyway (by writing to the complaints department), as they are obviously going to remove these 07744/07755 numbers at some point even if they reinstate them now, and calling these numbers was the only reason I got orange. But there are many other cheaper alternatives around (not mobile phones).
  • Hi Guys,

I got a new contract on the 8th of june the same day these number stopped. i only bought it to dial 07744 07755 numbers. So iam stuck with 850 mins a month. Any know of any other alternative or another number we can use.

    Anyone heard of 07700 numbers?

Any possitive feedback will be gratefull.
