Maybe I'm being daft here but just to confirm, if you manage to cancel then do you get to keep whatever spinky new phone was included 'free' with your contract?
The icing on the cake question is whether they can convert a contract sim to a payg sim thus keeping the same number? Or do you have to put in a payg sim and then do number porting?0 -
Im on Select 750. Spoke to Orange CS this morning and they confirmed I will NOT be getting charged for dialling 07744 07755 numbers as Im not on the animal tariffs. I have recorded the conversation by the way in case they try to chrge me. I have also got the name and extension number of the person I spoke to !!

Orange now charging for 07744,
Well i was wondering when this would come being they were the only network giving the calls free,
Now we will go back to using the pre paid international phone cards,
calling the London number then dial on with them,
We use icard for this £5- cards gives us 2,000 mins to Thailand better if sometimes we can even pick a £5- card up for £4-
2,00 MINS = 0.2 P PER MIN0 -
I just called in to ask if I would be effected as I had not had any text message and I bought my phone through buymobilephones.net. and the simple answer was YES!!! I would now be charged for them.
I said, OK, please can I arrange to cancel then as you are changing your terms and conditons, and the simple answer was "No, as we are not changing our terms and conditions, if you had made free calls that was something we had not picked up and that would of been something you would have enjoyed, I know it may be frustrating but under clause...cant remember all those she mentioned you can not cancel as this is not a change to our terms.
She even admitted she has been taking calls on this all day so she knows what the case is, sounded like it was read word by word from a post-it note or something on her screen.
I think they are on a fine line on this one but have covered there !!! by never saying this was something they provided. (eg they have never said calls to 07 numbers are free, just calls to other mobiles and technically these arent mobile numbers)0 -
I rang orange yesterday and they said ALL contracts would eb affected, old and new. They said regardless whether the phone was bought from another retailer or direct the 0744/0755 nos would be chargeable from yesterday.
I explained that other retailers were advertising that free international calls would be included in free calls and he said that although they were, the customers would still be billed for the calls at 20p per min.0 -
Is there anyone with connection with media or consumer watch programme etc so as to bring the issue and shame the orange.

i would not have bought the contract.
we shoould also complain to consumer watch dog and oftel.
anyone who can set up a pressure group and bring a lawsuit .

These prefixes were used for a mobile phone network called Dolphin, very few of you have ever heard of them I would guess. They operated a small tetra based mobile phone network, not GSM based like everyone else's.
Anyway Dolphin Telecom went bust and they were bought out by a company called Inquam who now owns these mobile phone prefixes...the problem the networks have with this, Orange aren't the only one as far as I know is that Inquam no longer offer a mobile phone service using mobile phone prefixes.
All Inquam does AFAIK is allow calling card companies to operate from mobile telephone numbers....here is an example http://www.yourcallworld.com ....obviously this is a massive benefit to customers and the calling card companies as the calls in most cases come from a customers inclusive minutes, the issue the networks have is that the call termination rates (the fees the networks are allowed to charge each other for passing on calls) are extremley high for calls to these prefixes, AFAIK this rate was set by Ofcom years ago and has never changed and it's so high that it can actually cost the networks money to connect calls to the Inquam owned numbers.
This wouldn't have been that big an issue when Dolphin were running their network as they only had a very small number of customers and the amount of calls connected would have been tiny. Dolphin was mainly used by corporations or very large businesses running their own private mobile networks on their sites, however, the calling card services using these numbers have been increasing in popularity for some time and have many thousands of customers. This means that the networks are faced with connecting thousands, if not tens of thousands of calls per day at call termination rates which are much higher than those for calls between the other networks and cost them money, hence the price hike for these numbers only and why they will no longer come out of your minutes.

helloooo calling cards0 -
... and without any compensating income in return of course, as hardly any of the calls made through these are to UK networksThis means that the networks are faced with connecting thousands, if not tens of thousands of calls per day at call termination rates which are much higher than those for calls between the other networks and cost them money, hence the price hike for these numbers only and why they will no longer come out of your minutes.0
