Hi all thanks for your advice, info and tips on this thread. I'll let you know my experience with canceling my contract hope it helps others.
Got the message on Friday the 8th and checked the website and from the terms and conditions I thought the new terms did not apply to me and continued using the 07744 service only to find out when I called Orange on a different matter that ALL customers will be charged for 07744 numbers, My bill is produced today so phoned up to find out how much I was going to be charged, I knew already that I was being charged as my inclusive mins were not going down, the extra charges on my June bill come to about £52.00. I have been told that all 07744 charges will automatically be credited back for all customers on their next bill, due to the short notice you can continue to use the 07744/07755 service till the end of June. I have asked for it in writing and have been told to expect a letter in about five days.
I asked to be put through to cancellations and the CS adviser said that as I was 9 months into an 18 month contract I would have to pay the remaining line rental to cancel, she said she had to tell me before putting me through to cancellations, so I mentioned the above inflation increase clause in the t&c she went away to speak to someone and came back and said that cancellations have a matrix/spreadsheet where they input your number and bill info and the increase in charges and if your charges are more than 2.5% than you are allowed to cancel, but would this not apply to everyone currently you don't pay anything and now you will be paying 20p/min I'm sure that's more than 2.5%!!
The guy in cancellations told me I could cancel, I will have to continue my contract for 30 days and have requested an Orange PAYG sim to transfer my number to, till I find another good contract, the great thing for me is that I didn't have to write any letters!, they didn't mention anything about my handset so I'll keep that too.
It does seem like the CS advisers have been briefed about the 07744 numbers but they just read from their script and don't really have an understanding about the whole situation, as swisshardy mentioned be persistent and mention the terms and conditions.Nearly debt free

One question that I have regarding the T&C's Orange have....
http://www1.orange.co.uk/termsupdate/
at the top of this page it now says:
"Calls to 07744 and 07755 numbers are not included in bundle and will be charged at a flat rate of 20p/min. These changes are applicable to ALL existing Orange tariffs, both the animal range of tariffs that is currently available and all tariffs that are now removed from sale."
reading further down and the details of the actual clause it STILL says:
"These terms and conditions apply to new and existing customers connecting or upgrading to a Dolphin, Canary, Racoon or Panther “Animal Package” via Orange direct between 1 March 2007 and 31 July 2007."
now i myself still haven't had any contact from orange, in the form of a text or otherwise, to tell me that they have changed their t&c's. many people got the text on the 8th june but i wonder if any others have had a text after that? if we accept the case that these changes now apply to EVERYONE on ANY orange tariff.... well these terms have changed again since the 8th June so they should be informing us again right? i havent been checking the terms page everyday but even towards the end of last week it did not mention the changes affect everyone....0 -
Guys and Gals,
As per Orange the game is over.
After speaking to one of the Orange CSR, I've been informed that everybody will have to pay for using 07744 and 07755 phone no. and THAT IS FINAL!
So can't do anything apart from keep on cancelling our contracts and informing OFCOM, WATCHDOG, Consumer Bureau etc.
They say game is over but according to me game is only just started becuase we should all CANCEL our contracts.
Any other solutions!0 -
FWIW Orange did this more than a year or two ago, no real notice and then suddenly started charging... a few months later they reversed their decision and they were included again. Could it happen again?ummm...0

this move doesnt make sense, at least people were getting orange contracts to use 07744/55 numbers, its not as if banning ppl using these numbers will get them to use orange to phone abroad at £1/min!
they will also lost customers who took out contracts just for this feature0 -
Hi all, having now established that we're all going to get charged for using 07744, i'm in a bit of a spot. Just taken out an 18 month contract to call these nums (and also for the free broadband). Annoyed about that, and now i've just spoken to orange about the broadband and they say i'd have to renew my contract with them to get it from the date of ordering. However, phoneboxdirect say if i do that i would invalidate my cashback (i have 18 months full cashback). And if i was to cancel the phone (which i reckon i'd qualify to do as orange have breached their contract) phoneboxdirect would invoice me the price of the handset as per their terms. Is there any way out of this or am i stuck? Advice much appreciated

you can still make 'free' international calls & use 0844 & 0870 on most O2 contracts - see detauils on Simply Fone & YCW websites0 -
