Now of to call Orange Customer Services for my refund...

    Wish me good luck..............

I only discovered about the 07744 charges today, having received no text message. Another thread states that Orange will refund all 07744 calls upto 22 June, but the Orange customer service rep I spoke with earlier categorically denied this (07744 being calling card nos etc).

I've not really got a problem with Orange ending free 07744 calls, we all knew it wouldn't last forever. But I took out my Orange contract last Dec of the view that they were the one mobile operator who you could trust.

But, the way they have handled this introduction of 07744 call charges is a farce. No advance notice, not everyone received a warning text, people assuming that pre-March 1 contracts were exempt and now it appears they won't even refund recent 07744 calls made in error on the assumption that they were still free. I'm not going to cancel my contract with Orange, but I've certainly lost my faith in them. The Orange customer service reps have been giving out several different lines on thse numbers.

Orange - this has been a disgrace!

Update - I spoke to Garry Elliott @ rentention/disconnections in Darlington he says I have never used these prefixes ! I checked my bills and I have made a few ( well sister calling me abroad from my contract ) so how can Orange dispute this ?

I sent a letter to orange as per my earlier post. Received a standard letter today, saying that my contract will be cancelled in 06/10/2008!!!
Called orange, and the lady gave me a line about 07744-55 numbers being calling cards…etc.. and that they were never included in the minutes.
Asked to speak to a manager, said she was in a meeting and will call me back in an hour….
Should I be holding my breath?

I thought i should contact them again... and spoke to a diffrent lady this time.
Explained it to her, and she said, yes you can cancel!
And this is my notice!! I asked if they needed anything in writing... she said.. no this is fine!
Asked if i was going to get something in writing, said a letter.
asked how long the letter would take, and was told a couple of days!!!
Then i asked how long before i am disconected... was told 30 days!
So hopefully i will have a letter to that affect by the end of the week at the latest! otherwise... another phone call!

Yep...only got the contract in april, but have used these numbers a lot, and that is the only reason i actually got the contract.

  • Hi Guys

I had a orange panther contract taken in december 06. I received the txt from orange about the changes to the terms and conditions. After which i spoke to CS and they told me i would be charged regardless of when i got the contract. However i asked to speak to a CS Manager and the Manager told me that i wont be charged since i had taken the contract in december. This conversation was on 8th june.
To my surprise on 16th june when i checked my current charges on my account i was shocked to see i was charged for callin 07744 numbers. So i again called CS and they told me that orange has again updated their t&c and now everyone would be charged but since they did not give me enough notice they will refund all my calls charges to these numbers in july bill. they also told me that i can use the numbers till 20th june n i will get refund for using the numbers for sure in july bill. They then passed me to billings department where i spoke to the guy to cancel my direct debit as i do not want to pay the overcharged bill for june. The guy promptly cancelled the dd and told me to ignore june's bill and i will get an updated bill in july.
I asked him to pass me to cancellations as i do not wish to keep my contract. When i spoke to cancellation team that i wish to cancel my contract they tried to offer me broadband and £5 free intl call per month free(i bought the contract for onestophoneshop for 18 months contract) but i just told her that i do not want anything except to cancel my contract. To this she immediately told me that she can cancel my contract right now if i wish but then i will loose my number. She suggested that i get an orange pay as u go sim(which she arranged to send to me) and as soon as i get my sim i can call CS and they would change my contract to pay as you go and i dont have to pay any cancellation charges or anything and plus the nokia 8800 black is mine to keep.

I am expecting the sim card in a day or two and once i get the card will migrate to pay as you go and cancel my existing contract. So in my case i had to do hassle with the initial CS guys but once ur talkin to a Manager if you persist on cancelling then they would(i guess).

I will update the post once i get my new sim. Has anyone else had the same experience?
