Have you looked at Jacques Vert stuff on Ebay? There are some nice outfits in larger sizes and they go for a fraction of their new price. If you could pop back into Debenhams try on their range and then look on Ebay for your size and price range I am sure you would find something to suit.

I wouldn't restrict to a cardi...or navy necessarily ...is the dress plain?

No, it's patterned (small pattern). Problem is, it's sleeveless and I need to cover my arms as well (or at least the bits above my elbows).

It's not indecently short, it's just not flattering for me, it's not great. :(

I'm going back to the barman theory I think. :rotfl:

It sounds ok as a compromise, and I think you can pick up a cardi quite easily. I'd still keep your eye out for a nice stole, because its more flattering, and you can layer, so leave the cardi off in the afternoon if its warm, and have both as the evening draws in.

In might be one of those things.....you get another sorted and another one miraculously jumps out at you, Who knows!

OOOh - if you want a very pretty and smart cover-up, there's a navy bolero in M&S at the moment which is not too short, has sheer short-ish sleeves and a little bow at the back waist. It is very flattering on - a friend bought one for a wedding, and I'm hoping to borrow it for another wedding later in the year. It is nicer on than on the hanger.......

Maybe it's time to do a 'dress xx' (xx being your size) on ebay. I've been looking for outfits for two different events on a really tight budget, and doing that every day and looking at things ending soonest I've found what I wanted for one of them within a couple of days.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I have been doing that. :)

The thing is because of the shape I am, I have a narrow range of what suits. Lots of things at the moment seem to be along the same lines, either gathered at the side (supposedly to disguise tum but does absolutely nothing for me, or has a waist that is more tailored and I can't fit into them.

Don't get me wrong, I have been looking and I've been searching for specific dresses in case anyone has a once worn job they are selling but the kind of things I need are just not coming up in the size I need.

How about doing a search for shift dresses, they flatter everyone, and then a search for a linen jacket to go over it? Or something like this?
