I was at a wedding last week and of the four brides best friends, Iwas very amused in the light of this thread that one was in black trousers and black and white tunic top. One was in green (obviously jealous then...) one was in red (nuff said:rotfl:) and one white/floral.
They all looked fab and each outfit reflected who they were as individuals.
And there was now doubt who the bride was:DI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -

I have this dress http://images.esellerpro.com/2516/I/343/5/stock_hellbunny_5100_all_ss1.jpg (in black), i'd probably team it with a coloured cardie and accessories
Those are very pretty, and also quite good at making skinny people look curvier and chunky people look petite!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Actually I think that says a lot too, that what you wear on your face (i.e. a happy celebratory smile) is as important as the clothes!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I've read this thread with interest as I am larger than average size too. Many thanks to all the posters who have contributed great ideas for websites that sell clothes for us BBW (Big, Beautiful Women)! I have a couple of suggestions to add to the melting pot, particularly given the shape Aliasojo has said suits her best.
Firstly, a couple of years ago (when I was a size 30) I went to Ladies Day at Newmarket and had a beautiful dress and boloro jacket made-to measure by this ebay seller at a very reasonable cost:

She offered a fantastic service and I really felt good in the dress. She will make one of her dresses in any colour you want and will also customise it, make jackets, scarves etc.
I would also look at www.box2.co.uk
as they do lovely things in bigger sizes and they tend to use natural fabrics such as cotton, linen and viscose (which I much prefer to polyester).
Finally, what about this dress

A friend of mine, who was a size 28 at the time, wore one of this seller's dresses to a wedding and looked fabulous!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Hi all, thought I'd update the saga....
I spent the day in Edinburgh city centre, looking in the larger dept stores there.
John Lewis (as one example) had larger sizes on their website so I figured I might get lucky there.
After struggling to find much on the shop floor, I bit the bullet and asked an assistant why there didn't seem to be anything larger than a size 18-20.
She (tactfully) told me I'd be unlikely to find much as they don't tend to carry many larger sizes instore. She did point me to the one range they did stock which was lovely but the clothing was extremely expensive and well out of my reach. It was also sized by 1,2,3,4....none of your 18/20/22/24 rubbish here you know. :rotfl:
Why even bother to sell larger sizes if you're not going to display them instore along with the smaller ones. The cynic in me wonders if that's because they simply don't want a section of their visiting customer base to be fatties, it's bad for the store's 'look'.
Anyway, it became abundantly clear that fat folk simply cannot buy affordable occasionwear on the High St. Plenty casual stuff, jeans, t-shirts and the like...but nothing suitable for a wedding unless you are prepared to pay for the very expensive ranges in expensive shops.
That said, Monsoon did carry ranges up to size 22 but a lot of their stuff was fitted which was fine if your waist size matched their definition. I expect their less tailored floatier Summer stuff might have been better size wise but their occasion wear is too tailored and unforgiving to suit most very overweight people.
Even Evans which is the fat peeps store, only sold casual stuff. I daresay come Xmas time they will up their game in the fancy stakes but for now...nowt.
I am truely shocked at how difficult and expensive it is to dress well when you are fat.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Aliasojo, just a word on monsoon....there sizes come up a little roomy, but not necessarily uniforimily so. From what you said a bout boobs you might have the same problem as I do with their sizes, that something that fits nicely on the boobs is too large on the waist.....
Which again means you need to have some one take it in, Its not the end of the world, and no store really can cater for all varience in size....and the 'differences' in shape within norm are going to be more pronounced as the sizes get bigger IYSWIM.0 -
I agree - if you find something in a store which just about fits everywhere else, nothing wrong in then getting it tailored to your body.
I regularly take tops/dresses in a bit for my DD - something that fits her perfectly everywhere else can be a bit loose/low under the arms, and she's a bog standard size 8.0 -

Thanks lir but you're going the wrong way...their stuff isn't big enough generally.
I used to be pear shaped, I'm now an apple. A cooking apple probably, they tend to be bigger. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0
