Can you wear black to a wedding?

ah right so its okay in Scotland to wear black as all the bridesmaids did at a wedding I was at on Saturday, they looked gorgeous as did the bride. Ouch.
In this case that clearly made the bride happy so that's great.
I referred to English specifically simply because in some some countries wearing black to a wedding has no connotations, or it actually traditional!0
