But why set yourself up to be annoyed?

Apparently TESCO keep doing this....so WHY ON EARTH keep using them? Its quite simple really.

My husband who got back from work early took in the delivery and signed for it - he didn't know driver was there early etc. As soon as he pulled up in his car, delivery driver thrust piece of paper for signature at him and scarpered! Hence original title of thread. If husband hadn't got back early, I would have opened door at 9 as arranged and signed for it. And had I realised that shopping was sitting there I would have told the driver - rather than this thread - exactly what I thought of it.

But can all please note title and point of original post - I was angry at my shopping being left on the doorstep by driver who couldn't be bothered to wait till agreed time to do so, to save himself a few minutes, thereby potentially putting my family's health at risk. NOT at driver just getting there early and trying his luck - as explained above, this has happened loads of times before and I've never felt in the slightest bit inclined to post on here about it; it might be inconvenient (like time he came an hour and a half early and I was just giving kids their tea) - but it's hardly a shooting offence, is it? But this is the first and only time someone's thought to unpack my shopping early anyway - had husband not come home unexpectedly early, it WOULD have been there for full half hour. THAT'S what I was cross about - the being early is only a precondition for this, not the main point.

Getting back to the food being left for possibly a half hour - which could be more after the delivery not showing up at 9 and realising that it's already there.... I certainly see your point. i don't know how they pack their deliveries or if they use freezer bags, but assuming they dont and that even at 8.30 in the evening it's still quite hot if you're having good weather... I would be worried. Even if it was raining and you had a few loaves of bread???

The first thing that would worry me to be honest would be neighbourhood pets trying to get at the food.... then I'd probably be worried about the hygenie factor immediately after that. I do think it's appaling that they'd just do that regardless of whatever the reason, just leaving the food there for whatever amount of time.

Tesco charge a £5 service charge and provide 2 HOUR delivery slots!!!!

Why then is it acceptable to turn up half an hour early and unload the shopping???

And as for getting home to his children - WHAT???? - he is surely paid until 11pm, or the end of the last slot.

If he was that early and it was his last drop of the day then he should have rang - END OF! If it was not his last drop than he should have gone off and come back - he had nother 2 and 1/2 hours until the end of the delivery slot which was PRE-BOOKED.

I am astounded that people think this is something the OP should be happy about. It is not efficiency, it is against their policy and is NOT what was paid for, or agreed - by both parties.

I would not have ignored the door myself but I can see how the OP felt. Looking at it another way, do you think you'd get served in Tesco half an hour before the store opens???? Of course not! If they can't keep within the TWO HOUR slots (and it's not that tight a time scale really is it?), then maybe they should look to increasing it to three hours, or, of course, they could just follow their OWN POLICY and RING!

But I forgot, companies like Tesco are above such courtesies aren't they? It's just the paying customer who has to abide by them!!!

And lastly, re the comments questioning why the OP uses such an unreliable service. Well, I imagine because most people think they will get the service they pay for. Tesco aren't doing the customer a favour - it's a business arrangement and they should be made to stick to it!

Unbelievable responses, and on a site which prides itself on getting consumer revenge!

    Consumer revenge.

Its called going elsewhere or holding the retailer to account.

The original poster has done neither.

    Why?

    Consumer revenge.

    Why?

The OP has received a refund and an apology. They have told her they will look into it - do you not read the posts you criticise so freely???

Equally valid consumer revenge can be achieved if more customers act like the OP and demand the service they have paid for.

The home delivery service is very useful but it doesn't come free and therefore, Tesco should not be permitted to think they are doing the customer a favour and can turn up when the hell they feel like it!!!

Sorry, but living here in Scotland we have very limited home delivery services. Asda only set up a short while ago so maybe the OP doesn't have much choice - as we don't.

Thanks Bestapud - I think you have totally summed up. You pay for service you would expect.

Dangeroussports - actually when doorbell went OP did not know who was there! She was dealing with her kids awaiting DH coming home, expecting Tesco 9.00 plus!
