He had two and a half hours before the end of the alloted delivery slot.

The difference here is the driver was BEING paid and the OP was PAYING. Therefore the driver is providing a service and should be prepared to wait or return later, or just ring, if he is not going to meet the agreed terms.

Tesco is NOT doing shoppers a favour - they are paying for a SERVICE. What part of that are you struggling to understand? This is not an informal arrangement.

If a friend/neighbour/work colleague etc agreed to drop something around as a favour, then yes, it would be rude to leave them on the doorstep. But a delivery service - no!!! NOT the same at all.

Do wish people would read earlier thread before repeating rubbish. Food only sitting on doorstep as I didn't know it was there - obviously if I'd known it was there, I would have taken it in. .
So the food was out of the fridge/freezer for half an hour.
Believe me, when MOST of us go shopping it takes that & more to get home. I think it will be OK for half an hour.
I can't believe you ignored the man at the door:mad:
I always managed to attend to my daughter (when she was a baby) & answer the door, you should try it, its not as hard as you think.

My sympathies Carolt. I am entirely with you. I book a time slot convenient for ME. I also have 3 boys, one disabled as well as a disabled husband. I never answer the door unless I know who it is so I wouldn't have answered the door either. If I were putting baby down I wouldn't answer the phone either. My driver has been early a couple of times but phones BEFORE he is on his way to me to say 20 minutes but both times were convenient. As to somebody being in - my neighbour puts lights on timers etc!

That's not the point though is it? I very much doubt the OP is ignorant or can't handle her children and answer the door!

The issue here is Tesco not following THEIR procedures and thinking customers should fit around them. Well, NO, it's the other way around, or should be!

I think this thread highlights why we need to make a stand NOW before these companies brain wash all of us into thinking we are passive mugs and have to courtsey to delivery drivers!!!

FGS, I can't believe people think it's acceptable for Tesco to do what they like when they offer a service with very definite terms!

Without the risk of repeating what has been said, she pre booked a slot after nine where she could give the shopping her full attention. If you are going to throw insults about, maybe you should look at what is more important settling your child down or sorting out the delivery because the driver wants to finish early. Sorry, forgot that you are supermum

It IS about companies doing as they please.

He could have been thinking the customer would pull up in her car any minute - to be home in time for the agreed slot!!! I don't know, perhaps he had confidence in her meeting her part of the deal, like a good little customer???

Treating people with respect is a two way thing - did the driver abide by this common courtesy - no!!!

I have worked in Tesco and I for one, would NOT tamper with people's food!!!

The driver did not do as he should have and he was wrong - end of.

Too many people feel we, as consumers, have no rights to a fair service, but WE DO!!!

You are clearly already brain washed by companies like Tesco!

I'm not being arguementative here, but how do you know who it is if you don't open it???
You're not the only person on here to say this.
But I'm really puzzled as to how you know, or do you only answer to people you expect? But most people who knock at my door I didn't know they were coming, or at least I wouldn't know when.

You may be think you are dissed by someone's granny but sorry, you are still what I called you.

My family have values and don't make any personal comments about me because I will sort you out.

I think this post is now going round in circles. There are Tesco issues, OP issues (understandable ones). Can we now not leave it because it really is not going to go any further. I really have been quite upset by some of the comments posted on this forum - totally out of order. There were issues as said above and as I said in my post. The bottom line is that Tesco should not have delivered early however dealt with! You pay for this service and service (not assumption or whatever) is what you should get.

Dave B - you are still a w@@@@r. Yes. I am a very important Granny and that was uncalled for!

The driver just turned up a bit early, and when it was clear someone was home started to unload...

Who would ever imagine that someone who's in would not want their delivery?
    The money, Dave...

personally I don't open the door when I am alone with my young children because I value my kids and my own safety. People know to ring before they call round. Also we get loads of sales people round its unbelievable
