Tesco dumped my shopping and ran!

Hollydays - just because someone expresses controversial opinions and doesn't always agree with the 'consensus' opinion on the board does not mean they are a troll. Dave Brooker has made a variety of posts on a variety of different subjects - some have been controversial, some have been helpful, and some have drawn no comment at all. He was accused of working for JPR electronics, which as far as I can see is unlikely, and there has been absolutely no evidence to support this, and a whole thread somehow became about him rather than the issue in hand.
I know that this is a 'Vent' board, but it is a public forum, and people have the right to disagree with one another. Calling someone a troll seems like a way to avoid countering their arguments with logic and reason. I am not saying I agree with Dave Brooker on this, but he is stating his opinion and if you disagree, you only have to say, rather than trying to discredit him by portraying your opinion that he is a 'troll' as fact. If he is a troll, then he is a bl00dy hard working one and he has been thanked plenty of times (way more than me!) for his posts, so does it really matter. A bit of devil's advocate never did anyone any harm.
Dave Brooker - I hope none of this is presumptious - I have seen what happens when these accusations start on a thread and I think it is ruder to divert a thread to your own agenda than to express a differing opinion to the OP.0 -
You obviously don't have children, do you? Or are you the kind of person who ignores your screaming baby to welcome a delivery driver half an hour early (again) and unload the shopping/put frozen away etc? Glad I'm not you.
Babies scream it's one of the things they do, you don't have to give them attention because they scream. If you do it all the time your child will scream whenever they want attention from you as that's the way they learnt to get it. Now imagine that going on and being in the Supermarket because you decided to stop shopping with Tesco online. You just have to use your best judgement when your child needs you (when they fall over, when they have a temperature or are vomitting etc). Sometimes you just have to leave them alone and let them get on with it, even if they start screaming louder.
Although I do agree that leaving your shopping on the doorstep when there's been no response and turning up early is not good practice. If it led to food destruction I would be expecting Tescos to replace the food immediately.0 -

lol.Hes not a troll-he is a devils advocate then. How exactly is that different?
Definition "someone who takes a position for the sake of arguament".0 -
They knocked at 8.30, just as I was getting 3 kids off to sleep, which is WHY I had booked the delivery for after 9!!! but I ignored them as it's not my responsibility to make sure they finish their shift early but it is my responsibility to see my poor screaming 11 month old gets to sleep....0
-
....your 3 kids are all crying, the phones ringing, the door bell's ringing....TESCO MAN is not your priority but thankfully he left your shopping until you could unpack it. Or would you prefer he took it back?0
-
I really don't see what the big deal is here, it's not worth getting worked up about either way. Seems to me, driver rings bell, nobody answers...He has two options: 1) sit there twiddling his thumbs 2) start unloading and hope that someone turns up.
Last time I worked in a supermarket (some time ago in fairness) the "cold chain" said that you couldn't keep goods out of temp. control for more than 1/2 hour. So I don't think he's doing anything wrong leaving stuff on the step for a few minutes.
Ignoring the door, tbh, I find quite petty...I'd have answered for fear of him ringing repeatedly more than anything.
I'd take a step back if I were the OP...if over-efficient service from tesco is the worst thing you have to complain about in life, you're probably doing quite well...0 -
You're not a Tesco delivery driver by any chance, Albertross? Or you Dave Brooker? Or are you in fact the same person or conjoined twins?
Wow, when I thought to let off a little steam, never thought it would excite so much interest....
I must vent here more often......
Oh you are right about one thing, though Albertross, I shall vote with my feet and stop using Tesco's for my shopping if they can't manage the seemingly impossible task of coming at a time that I've booked and that is convenient for me rather than them. By the way, just to be pedantic, doubt delivery driver can hear baby screaming in bedroom at the back, with the door shut...unless he's got VERY good hearing along with being psychic.... Oh, and I don't want sympathy from Tesco's just efficient service.
Well Dave (Brooker) I've got to admit that you're one helluva busy chap:rotfl: You own a company selling electronics, you sell cosmetics on e-bay and now you're a delivery driver for Tesco:rolleyes: However do you find the time0 -
Thanks, guys, for keeping my end up while I've been away....
I note Dave Brooker has been absent too - maybe having a party, inviting Tesco's and Sainsbury's and Ocado all round at once....
Truest words so far from Ideofreak:

This being a vent board, I was venting. In calm light of day, no it's hardly a major tragedy, and have spoken to Tesco's, who contrary to Dave Brooker's prediction, were EXTREMELY sympathetic and apologetic and refunded my delivery charge amid abject promises to look into it and ensure it doesn't happen again. THEY agreed it was unacceptable and completely contrary to their guidelines. I'm happy with that. If Dave Brooker et al aren't, maybe they should get out more. Next time, if there is one (!) I shall seriously consider just venting at my husband - though I might not have quite so much fun baiting the Dave Brookers of this world.
Oh, and, anewman, many, many thanks for your helpful advice on how to bring up my children. I quite see the error of my ways and am sure that you are an exemplary parent in every way, and whose example I have been sadly lacking to date. It had simply never occurred to me to let them cry. Thank you so much for your valuable insights.
By the way, this being a Vent, Bent and Heaven Sent Board, I thought I'd share details of a particular angel I encountered on my way home today - sadly not a corporate one, just a very kind lady who helped me with my pushchair down a couple of steps, and then asked if I was going her way and if I wanted a lift! I was, but she wouldn't have had a car seat and baby was asleep (again!) and would have needed waking, so I declined with great thanks.
Many lovely people out there :A - quite restores one's faith in mankind (ever so slightly) battered by the pointless Dave Brooker....
Enough said on the subject, surely??? By me, anyway.0 -
I have to say, I am some what surprised at the reaction to the OP. This is the VENT board. If anyone wants to vent their spleen at something, this is the appropriate place.
What ever the individual situation the hard facts are that a delivery slot was booked and paid for, for an appropriate time for the OP.
There was no communication to advise the delivery would be made early.
This has clearly upset the OP and if they feel they want to vent about it, then that is exactly what they can do. Here. Personally it takes me 35 minutes to drive home from the supermarket, and I can't keep my foods chilled in that time - so the time factor isn't the important aspect here. However I would be upset to discover my foods left for all and sundry to help themselves to from my doorstep. I don't know how Tesco delivery drivers operate - whether they finish when their round is finished, or whether it is a set hour shift. It may have been the driver wanted to finish early, if they have a situation where they finish once all deliveries had been made, but a courtesy phone call would have resolved that for me.
The lack of courtesy from Tesco's and their drivers made me vote with my feet 3 years ago. I shop at Waitrose, spend less than at Tesco's and receive better service.
If I was the OP and I was upset, I would firstly vent here. Then once calmer - I would then write to Customer Services at the store to set out why I felt upset/agrieved/cross etc etc.
At the end of the day, the delivery came at a time that was not appropriate to the OP, yes, they were at home and to some they may have been able to answer the door - however, I never answer the door or the phone during tea. Doesn't make me rude - it just says I value that time with my family. Maybe bedtime has the same value with the OP"A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. Do not be pursuaded into buying what you do not need or cannot afford." Quaker Faith & Practice 1.02.410 -

Should I rugby tackle the postman and tie him up before he has a chance to axe murder me?
