Tesco dumped my shopping and ran!

I agree strongly with the OP. It is not fair that you have to leave kids to open the door to someone who is half hour early (I did read the earlier thread) and have a job of unpacking (even if it is only the frozen stuff) when you have planned your timetable around other things. It is not fair that frozen stuff is left for half an hour (potentially) on a step in this warm weather. If the driver was running early, he could have stopped somewhere for a time out. If no-one was answering the door he could have left the frozen food/chilled in the van until 9.00pm. He shouldn't have started unpacking the stuff until he was certain that the stuff was going to be taken. It is just common sense!
There are all sorts of reasons why no-one could answer the door. Maybe the customer was not at home but a burglar was. Maybe it was someone vulnerable who would only answer the door when they were certain it was appropriate or when their carer was present. Maybe it was someone snatching the opportunity to have a bath because it was half an hour before the delivery was due!
Actually, the main grief I have had with Tesco is substitutions. No matter how often I say 'no substitutions' they don't seem to believe me. Tesco do not always tell you when they have substituted, and you try making them wait while you check your order! I once arranged for a delivery for 23 December, so that if they did not have the items I had booked I could get them in the local stores. Not only did they substitute so many items it added £30 to the bill, once I had answered the door and signed they dumped the stuff in the middle of the road (yes - the middle of the road where the cars go!) and ran.
I now go to Sainsburys who are brilliant, courteous, on time and don't substitute. They are slightly dearer (and this is a MSE forum) but at least I don't get surprises when I unpack my stuff. I get a monthly shop, the last one included over 30 two litre bottles of pop, and they were really helpful.
I seriously recommend voting with your feet.

Rather than repeating other things already said, if this has happened "umpteen times before" as per the original post, why are you still using the service?Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

Do wish people would read earlier thread before repeating rubbish. Food only sitting on doorstep as I didn't know it was there - obviously if I'd known it was there, I would have taken it in.
And, Mark7799, it wasn't the fact that being early had happened "umpteen times before" that was the problem - as just stated above:
But can all please note title and point of original post - I was angry at my shopping being left on the doorstep by driver who couldn't be bothered to wait till agreed time to do so, to save himself a few minutes, thereby potentially putting my family's health at risk. NOT at driver just getting there early and trying his luck - as explained above, this has happened loads of times before and I've never felt in the slightest bit inclined to post on here about it; it might be inconvenient (like time he came an hour and a half early and I was just giving kids their tea) - but it's hardly a shooting offence, is it? But this is the first and only time someone's thought to unpack my shopping early anyway - had husband not come home unexpectedly early, it WOULD have been there for full half hour. THAT'S what I was cross about - the being early is only a precondition for this, not the main point.
Please learn to read before criticising me inaccurately.
And yes, Dave Brooker, if I was paying my 'dinner guests' £5 for the privilege of coming to my dinner, I'd like it if they showed up on time. But that analogy just shows how stupid your comment is. Tesco delivery drivers are NOT my friends, or even acquaintances. It is a business arrangement, pure and simple and one which I pay for. I therefore expect the service I have paid for, nothing more and nothing less.0 -

That was not my analogy.Tesco delivery drivers are NOT my friends
I think we've all gathered that...:DThe money, Dave...0 -
Then what was your point?0

I cant beleive that people are having a go at the original poster. She has done nothing wrong, she didnt ignore the door during her delivery slot that she had paid for, she specifically chose a delivery slot where she knew it would be convenient. I have been in the position of having a screaming/upset child and I would NOT leave them to answer the door to anyone especially someone who had come early. She has every right to expect her shopping to come as arranged. If the driver was early he should pull up somewhere and wait until he is within his time frame. If he wanted to finish early then he should arrange time off but who knows if that was the case anyway, thats just someone assuming that.
I hope the OP just ignores the people on here who have had a go at her, I wonder if this happens to them one day when they are not able to answer the door they feel so sorry for the driver then.

There's ignoring the door for a few minutes because you've got your hands full, and then there's ignoring the door for 30 minutes.....The money, Dave...0
