    this is descending into madness!

MSE has NEVER been the type of place to end up with a shouting match about what may or may not have been thought by different people. i think the OP had a fair point, but even when i disagree with people there is NO NEED AT ALL for the smug and agressive comments levelled on here.

i'm actually ashamed in case a new user reads this thread and thinks it's what MSE is all about.

    WOW!!!!

I have been away for nearly 2 days. When I left the thread it was on page 4, now it's on page 10!!! 184 posts!!!! I wasn't planning to comment further, but will just repeat some earlier points now lost in the mists of time (ie pages 1-4) for those who couldn't be bothered to read back that far to stop them posting incorrect assertions AGAIN.

But firstly, as that interesting character Dave Brooker pointed out so astutely at 11.04pm yesterday evening (ie Friday night):

It was a trivial event, and I'm amazed anyone would have bothered to report it to an internet forum.

So why is he STILL posting about it???? If I, to whom the events described, have long since got over it and moved on, why can't he? I note that, over on another current thread, Can they really do this is it illegal??? the same Dave Brooker, I assume, is trying his hardest to wind up another poster. I leave others to decide whether he is a troll or not. Personally, for what it's worth, I just think he is a very sad, lonely individual who gets a peverse pleasure out of trying to wind people up. Sad, and I feel sorry for you Dave, I really do.....

In fact, as I explained on page 4! :DTesco apologised profusely and refunded my delivery charge, so I am happy with that - if Tesco themselves think they were in the wrong, then those who defend their behaviour might like to consider if this is entirely sensible......

Kimevans - you have one child; I have 3. Believe me, if you ever have 3 you WILL find it harder work and you cannot just carry 3 kids downstairs with you to open the door while you let the delivery driver in! Indeed, there might well be those who suggest that parents such as yourself who deliberately leave their children to cry are bad parents. I wouldn't accuse you of that, however, as I firmly believe ALL parents have the right to bring up and look after their children in the way they see best (unless the child's health or safety are actually endangered, obviously) BUT would like and expect YOU to extend that same respect to me.

Those who think that my first duty was to open the door are entitled to their opinion, of course. Indeed, as explained above ad nauseam, that IS what I did on all the previous times Tesco came early. But on this occasion it was not convenient.

Put it this way, who do YOU think is more capable of waiting, a grown man (who should not even have been there for another half an hour and was in fact being paid £5 to turn up at a later time) or 3 small, overtired children, including a crying baby who could not possibly be expected to understand why mummy was going away?

Those who think the needs of the grown adult should come first, to my mind have odd priorities - or dislike children. Thankfully we no longer live in the Victorian age and children are NOT always expected to take second place to adults and be seen and not heard etc. It was not what I was prepared to do.

I really am NOT going to contribute on this thread any further, :shhh: as it really has gone on FAR TOO LONG!!!!.......

Good wishes to all of you, especially Dave Brooker who I fear may need them most of all. :)

Surely you've answered the door in their presence before??
