Like many others here i recieved these DVDs. I have good anti virus on my PC so i admit to putting one in the player. It immediately asks for a PIN number which i don't have and i did not try to create.
So my comments for what its worth.
1. They are of no real danger to your PC if you have good anti virus software.
2. Do not be over surprised they have your name and address, there are loads of legitimate databases where our information is held.
Because i have been subject to a "subscription" scam before personally i will be looking at my bank statements online daily for a small withdrawal. Usually this is a precursor to a larger monthly subscription charge.
Watch your bank people...0 -
I believe it's known as a Dutch miracle. Some ungrateful people on here. Never look a gift horse in the mouth.0

Yep, another case here. Thankfully I was late in last night as I usually let my 5 year daughter open my mail! Still I've been planning to join MSE for a while so some thing has come from it!0

I also received the same 2 DVDs yesterday. They were sent to my old address but we are having our mail redirected as we only moved house recently so still was 'lucky' enough to recieve them. Hands down this is weirdest junk mail to ever land on my door mat.
Relieved to see I wasnt the only one to get this - think I would have been sleeping on the sofa last night if it wasnt for this thread!0 -
Really odd thread..
So many newbies.. receiving these DVD's.. what do they stand to gain from this?!
:spam::exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -

Dont rock the boat ,baby0 -
I am not a newbie, I think this may turn out to be financially harmless-if you are sensible. This is not to say that this should have occurred, unsolicited !!!!!! thro the post is not right. As for where they get your address it could be anywhere- mine had only christian name and no town.????????? Sounds like it may be various sources.0

They are "newbies" BECAUSE they got these DVD's!
A quick Google of the return address on the envelope brings up this thread.0 -
Long chat with a very helpful man from the fraud protection line, he wasn't personally aware of the scam but has logged it and given me a case number. The more that report it the quicker someone will take action.
0300 123 2040 is the number to call to report it. It needs stopping, if nothing else to avoid the embarrassment it could easily cause to someone.0 -
I got these disks too, sent to an address I left six years ago. I've had my identity stolen at that address before so this set the alarm bells ringing.
I tried to report this to Royal Mail. I spoke to someone called Luke who was polite but unhelpful. He said there had been many complaints (and also for a previous incident last year) but insisted that it was not an offence to send unsolicited R18 DVDs through the post as long as they were 'packaged discreetly'.
He said the DVDs were sent from Holland and processed through a company called Mail Order House or Mailing Order Houses (it changed each time I asked him to repeat it). He also mentioned Principal Secret but that seems to be a skincare product that probably just uses the same company for fulfilment.
When I raised the possibility of someone opening the letter by mistake and being confronted by this material Luke was quick to say that this would be an offence however. Skewed priorities much?
Very disappointed in the Royal Mail over this, but perhaps not surprised. I wonder if Prince Philip received a mailshot?
For the record the DVDs were sent to Nottingham and my number was 143. I have been registered here five years and talk of 'newbies' is a diversion and not really relevant to this thread.
EDIT: My disappointment is for their reaction when I reported it, not the original mailing. I am not advocating that they open people's mail at random (even though, of course, this already happens).0
