I agree that it's impractical, undesirable and probably illegal for Royal Mail to open sample envelopes from bulk mailings, and of course they can't do anything about this problem until they've been made aware of it. However, it's clear from this thread that a number of victims have called them and have received a "shrugged shoulders" response and this simply isn't good enough. They will have a contract with the fulfilment centre they delivered these envelopes for, and now they are aware of some of the offensive material they are delivering, they should acknowledge their responsibility in putting a stop to these deliveries. I was going to phone RM myself this morning to complain, but now I realise from other posters that it's a waste of time I'll go the Action Fraud Line route instead, so thanks to all the posters who have given their number. :T0

Yep, I'm another "newbie"!! Lol!
I also received THOSE dvd's through in post yesterday, and trying to get to the bottom of this mystery, a Google search lead me to this thread.
(Perhaps this is a secret ploy by Martin Lewis to get more 'newbies' to subscribe to MSE)?!! Lol! *sorry Martin*
I'm based in Devon, and the code on my envelope is 209.
Although I did NOT order them, I'm single, no prude and not particularly offended... (but I can understand how many people out there ARE angry). Some people must have had a lot of explaining to do!! :-/
So, all of this begs the question:
Has anyone cracked the PIN code to play the DVD's on a DVD player?!!
I think it would be hilarious (and tough justice) that after all of the efforts these people/scammers have gone to, to publicly reveal the pin number (so they don't make a penny - and hopefully lose £1000's)!!0 -
Also received 2 discs today, have completed online form on Action-Fraud website. Thanks for everyone who's posted, it was a bit worrying where they came from for a while!0

Two very nice constables visited today and took the offending articles away. they asked that I did not contact the sender and said that they would investigate.
I had to chuckle when the younger one said that they would 'look into these'.
Suggest we keep reporting to the Action Fraud people.0 -
just like everyone one here I too received these DVD - have contacted my local police and they have logged it on their system and have requested that I telephone / email the action fraud team - if any one else wants to ring them the number is 0300 123 2040 (open 8am till 9pm) or email them from their website. Im so relieved that its not just me - I felt physically sick when my husband rang me to say that I had had a delivery of !!!!!! - I hope the police will be able to do something.
I rang the action fraud team today and they said that they have not heard of this problem and its not their area as no fraud has been commited.0 -

In the interests of 'research' I hacked them if you can call it that (very easy)
The discs are genuine enough but as others have posted, the scam seems to be that to watch normally, you need to get a code to unlock. As with most scams, they will make money from those that will just follow instructions and not realise.
Wouldn't waste your money personally
It's only a scam if someone pays the money and doesn't get what is advertised. So far as I can see nobody has paid up so it may not be a scam just a different way of promoting something. Apart from that with all the freely available !!!!!! online why would anyone pay anyway. It's someone else's fault.0 -

Obscene publications and unlawful indecent images

And, part 5 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008:

Maybe people should complain to RM stating the above Act?
They may of course be getting round that because you can't actually watch the DVDs as sent and of course the images may not be considered to be obscene or extreme. They may just be very tame, not much different to some films and TV programmes these days. It's someone else's fault.0 -
Maybe they should all be returned to sender encased in some very heavy weight cardboard to protect the contents - maybe they might slow down a bit when all the unpaid mail starts coming their way0

'you can't actually watch the DVDs'
oh yes you can!0
