Why are you disappointed at the royal Mail? What can they do? They don't know what's in the packages, the mailing order house in question could have told them it was Disney DVD's. RM can't open the packages to find out, so it's not their fault.
  • They are "newbies" BECAUSE they got these DVD's!

A quick Google of the return address on the envelope brings up this thread.

Yep, I guess all of us 'newbs' here all had the same reaction to these random DVDs (in my case my first thought was to prevent any more from being incorrectly delivered to the old owner of my house so I was going to return with a 'no longer at this address' note. Naturally suspicious of things like this though so glad I checked up on it.) When I saw the scale of this I thought 'reporting' it here might help in at least some small way.

They have been contracted to deliver them and have a duty of care to ensure that the contents are legal and not likely to cause offence. Maybe it would be a good idea if Royal Mail opened a random sample of the packages they were given. I bet if the material was racist / homophobic etc. they would be jumping up and down a lot more.

Imagine the rage if RM started opening people's post just to check the contents.

I'm disappointed in RM for their response on the phone, not for the original mailing. I should have made that clearer.

EDIT: I've reported it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 as mentioned above by NickAJ. It's the unsolicited nature of this that is, to me, shabby and unacceptable.

I'm new. I found this thread while trying to work out what was going on with these discs. <p>
RM are incorrect - it's still an offence for these discs to be sent. They are inherently offensive due to the images shown printed onto the disc and because they were not solicited. It is different to receiving a discretely packaged item you have sought. This would constitute malicious communications. However, I think that the fraud action line is more sensible given that their intent seems far more likely to defraud and not to offend.

    RM's banned list contains this:

Obscene publications and unlawful indecent images
Including obscene or extreme pornography as detailed in Part 5 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 and indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child as detailed in section 160 and 161 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988

And, part 5 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008:

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2008/4/part/5

Maybe people should complain to RM stating the above Act?

I received this unpleasant surprise in the post yesterday too, and as a long-time user of this site was really relieved to find this thread and find out that I wasn't the only one!

Still, it could have been worse - one of the headlines today is:

James Blunt sends new track Bonfire Heart to millions of people who didn't ask for it
Honest mistake or marketing ploy? Singer apologises on Twitter for UK-wide mailout blunder

I would have been most upset to be spammed with that rubbish :p
I really thought I just hit rock bottom. But today, it's like there's rock bottom, 50 feet of crap, then me. (Friends)

Useless fact; I served in the Army with James Blunt (Blount as he was then).

    Thanks Gordon.
