  • No, we did not. Are we entitled to that in addition to the EU compensation?

    Thanks,

yes, refund of the cancelled Easyjet flight plus EU261 compensation...
  • My family and I were delayed for over 11hrs for a flight from Lanzarote.
Following this, I lodged a claim for our compensation which Ryanair accepted promptly (no arguing at all) and confirmed that payment would be payed within 28 working days.

3 weeks after this, I received an email from Ryanair saying that there had been a technical issue with processing the payment and they had now rectified this, however we would now have to wait another 28 working days. WE ARE STILL WAITING and it's been over 50 WORKING DAYS!!
I was amazed by the speed of their initial responses, usually answering a query within 24hrs,
(Knew it was too good to be true!)
I have contacted them several times now using Resolver, and have had no replies since the last confirmation email! I have now escalated this and have 14 days left to wait until I can escalate to the CEO!
Has anyone else experienced this?? This is soo frustrating as they agreed to pay the compensation without any quibble, but actually handing over the money is proving extremely difficult!:mad::mad:
  • Download and read Vauban's guide. Then send them a notice before action letter. All explained in the guide
  • not used this before so not sure if I'm doing it correctly! My flight from NY to London Heathrow with United Airlines was delayed 12 hours. How do I go about claiming compensation other than the £100 airline voucher the airline are offering me? I was treated to this hol for my birthday and am unlikely to travel abroad especially with united airlines again so this compensation is of no use to me. I had a hotel booked at Heathrow which I had to pay for but didn't use and the return coach trip was not needed and I had to male alternative travel arrangements home.

as a non-EU airline and a flight departing outside the EU, EU261 compensation does not apply
You could try your travel insurance to see if they would cover your losses

Just to let you know, you won't get a meaningful reply from the ECC. They have no ability to pressure the airline effectively. Other regulars here will correct me, but I don't recall a single case where intervention by the ECC made a positive impact.

From what you describe, a knock-on case from an earlier technical problem, your case is as iron cast as they come. So my advice is not to waste further time but do the one thing the airline can't ignore: initiate legal proceedings.

Thank you for this, as you have predicted the ECC sent me a non-response to contact the Italian Civil Aviation authority - I have written to them now just in case, but I can't see anything coming of it. I'm glad to hear that I've got a case in your opinion, I will definitely be taking this further. Fortunately the damnable flight was only in July so I have a lot of time ;)

  • I had a flight cancelled and was told it was down to air traffic controll strikes in France.
Now my question is do airlines lie about cancelling due to air traffic strike when the flight may have been cancelled to help their schedule?
I used to work in aviation so just wanted to see if anyone had challenged the reason for cancellation?
We got a text while on the way to the airport and it completely ruined our holiday as they couldn't fly us out until 4 days later so wasn't worth it for a 7 day holiday!
I have sent an email stating I want proof the flight was cancelled due to air traffic strikes but heard nothing back.
I was travelling to Spain and other flight departed so have my suspicions they have used the excuse to get them out of paying compensation!
    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks

during ATC strikes there are often flying route changes to avoid the areas affected however it is not possible to divert all aircraft (congestion) so often ATC slots are cancelled and the airline has no choice but to cancel.
You can view routes taken by flights on sites such as Flightradar etc
Having ATC slot for a flight cancelled is also not within the airlines control.
You can put your flight number / date in a couple of the free NWNF checkers - Bottonline, EUClaim. If they confirm there is no compensation due then you have your answer.
