Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

The CAA said -
It appears to us that due to the disruption of your flight departing from the UK, you missed a subsequent connecting flight. The CAA’s view, which has been provided to United Airlines, is that missed connections on directly connecting flights outside the European Union on a non-EU airline where the first flight was from the UK are within the scope of EC261/2004. Therefore compensation may be due depending on the circumstances which led to the disruption.
However, United Airlines takes the view that missed connections outside the European Union on a non-EU airline are not covered by EC261/2004 regardless of what caused the missed connection.
We are not an ombudsman scheme and therefore are unable to impose our view of this matter on United Airlines. In light of this, I am sorry to inform you that we are not in a position to take your claim for compensation any further.0 -
CAA response is correct - if you read the US and Canadian Airlines thread you will find some similar cases - have a look at Lyndac40's posts starting post 29. (almost identical tale...United flight, delayed around 2 hours, missed connection, arrived over 4 hours late at final destination.....) took a long slog but got compensation in the end by going to court0

HI
If anybody could help I would be most grateful.
Flew back from Osaka to Frankfurt (delayed by 1.5 hours) thus missing the connection Frankfurt to Manchester, we were rebooked onto a later flight and this resulted in a 6 hour layover instead of a 2 hour one. Are we entitled to any compensation please? Same airline, one ticket.
Many thanks!0 -

unable to say from the information given...you have not mentioned the cause of the delay...not all reasons qualify
If you read Vauban's guide you should be able to see whether you have a claim or not

I flew to Turkey from Glasgow back in May 2011 and was delayed by over 10 hours on the return flight due to the Icelandic ash cloud. We could not fly back into Glasgow but instead were flown to Manchester then bussed to Glasgow.
Would we be entitled to any form of compensation?:male:0 -

Only for possible accommodation and meals, and for the costs of getting to your final destination - and if none of these costs were met at the time AND you still have receipts. The ash cloud which closed European airspace was "extraordinary circumstances" which means the usual compensation doesn't apply.0 -
I'm currently claiming off Easyjet.
My girlfriend booked the original flight but I'm handling the compensation claim on behalf of us both.
Easyjet have admitted liability and have asked for the following:
"In order to be able to receive the compensation, please attach in the next reply the written and signed consent from the booker."
To save me from wasting time sending the wrong thing could anybody please outline what this should contain? Thanks.0 -
It's quite simple. Because your girlfriend booked the tickets, she was the customer and they need written confirmation from her that you have her authority to act on her behalf. After all, you might have split up for all they know.0

I am sure I am being slow, but the MSE thread and other sources are not obvious to me:
Our EasyJet flight to Bordeaux was cancelled on the morning it was supposed to depart, about 4 hours before scheduled departure. We called Easyjet and they could not offer us an alternative for 3 days.
We booked alternative flights with a different airline, which were more expensive than the original flights.
EasyJet have paid us the EU compensation of e250 per person. Are they also entitled to reimburse us for the alternative flights?
Thanks,

No. Did you also get your money back for the cost of the original flight?0
