  • Hi there
Very new to all this. I'm wanting to check if we can claim.
We were delayed on a flight from Belfast to stansted on easy jet? Can we claim as both airports are in the United Kingdom?

there is no issue with the airports both being in UK but compensation is not due for every delay...it will depend on the reason for the delay
have a search for "Vauban's Guide" and all should be clear
  • I had a flight, on one ticket with United, Manchester to Chicago, via Washington. the flight from Manchester arrived in Washington 2 hours late so we missed the connecting flight to Chicago. the next available flight arrived over 4 hours after our schedules arrival time. United refused compensation as the connecting flight did not originate in Europe. The CAA claim also failed. I am now with a Claim company.
Anyone had similar experience with such an issue?

What did the CAA say? In these circumstances they usually agree compensation is due, but point out that they have no way to make the airlines pay.
  • Looking for some clarity on flight compensation:eek:

We had booked a flight from Manchester to New York with BA. This involved flying from Manchester to LHR for a connection on to JFK. We were denied access to the flight from Manchester due to this flight being over subscribed, BA could't get us on any other flights LHR that morning, so we had a 5 hour delay at Manchester. This meant that we would miss our LHR to JFK flight and we were subsiquently rebooked on to an American Airlines flight 5 hours after our origonal scheduled flight from LHR to JFK. We were given a €250 compensation credit card in Manchester. However I'm thinking that this would only cover the 5 hour delay in us getting to LHR. The fact that we arrived at JFK over 5 hours after we we're scheduled to arrive, would suggest that the comensation should have been for a delay for a flight longer than 3,500 km.

Do we have a case for claiming and additional €600 for the delay to the flight to the USA or the differance between the €250 and €600 (i.e. and additional €350).

Yes - if it was a through ticket to JFK, with one BA booking reference - then you are due 600 Euro.

My daughter was delayed something over 7 hours on return from Athens on 19th July, flight BA633.
We sent them your template letter the following week (25th July), having heard nothing for 4 weeks was about to take it to the next level when yesterday a cheque arrived for £345 (equivalent €400)
Not sure how sustainable this will be for the airlines in the long term but very straightforward & satisfactory, thank you MSE.

In case of confusion, 600 euros does not equate to £345; but 400 euros does. And a flight from Athens to the UK attracts compensation of 400 euros.

Oops sorry have corrected my post
  • The CAA said:

It appears to us that due to the disruption of your flight departing from the UK, you missed a subsequent connecting flight. The CAA’s view, which has been provided to United Airlines, is that missed connections on directly connecting flights outside the European Union on a non-EU airline where the first flight was from the UK are within the scope of EC261/2004. Therefore compensation may be due depending on the circumstances which led to the disruption.

However, United Airlines takes the view that missed connections outside the European Union on a non-EU airline are not covered by EC261/2004 regardless of what caused the missed connection.

We are not an ombudsman scheme and therefore are unable to impose our view of this matter on United Airlines. In light of this, I am sorry to inform you that we are not in a position to take your claim for compensation any further.
