<snip> The still refuse to tell me why the flight was cancelled. Botts say I am due compensation but no idea why flight cancelled and they seem to want me to sign up for them to fight my case.0

We just returned from Turkey (Dalaman) to Manchester with Jet2 and experienced a 12 hour delay to our 4 hour flight. We're uncertain whether we can claim, as the initial cause of the delay is not under the control of the airline, but some of the other factors may be. Details are as follows:
A passenger became very ill on the flight and we had to make an emergency diversion to Amsterdam. The lady and her family were taken off the plane.
Due to regulations, this meant that their luggage had to be removed. Nobody was available to do this at the airport at that time (early morning), causing delay whilst we waited for somebody to be called in. Everything up to here was outside of the airlines control.
Due to the delays above, our aircrew exceeded their hours and could not fly us home. We had to wait until a standby crew were flown out from UK on the first available flight later in the morning. In total, we were in Amsterdam for around 11 hours (the flight was also delayed 1 hr before the original departure) - 5 hours on the plane and 6 in the airport. Jet2 gave us a letter saying that it was out of their control, and gave us vouchers for food.
Is the lack of crew and associated delay the airline's fault, or would the entire delay be considered as being entirely outside of the airline's crew due to the original cause?0 -
Hmmm it s a tough one. The original cause of the delay was an EC but several other events appear to have delayed further. I am pretty sude Amsterdam is a 24 hour airport so saying nonone was available to unload luggage I don't buy. Jet2 must have known they would be diverting to Amsterdam at some point during the flight (when were you informed on the flight?) and should have known when the crew would go out of hours, getting a new crew over sooner than they did. That s a long time delay. Have you checked a flight checker such as Botts? If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
The alleged Ringleader.........0 -
We were informed just before the descent started. But the cabin staff had been with the passenger for an hour prior to this. Jet2 don't usually land at the terminal they went to to meet the paramedics. I know they ended up using KLM staff/equipment to unload the luggage, initially at least. I tried Bott & Co vut it gave an error saying I'd already submitted claim for some reason (never used it before)!0

Just tried that, the initial answer is yes. Not sure how much checking they do, as I only entered the flight number - I'm not sure if they only check the length of delay.0

Our flight from Manchester to Punta Cana was delayed for 26 hrs.
I have factual information that the reason was a flood in Gatwick caused one of their planes to be stranded so they used our plane to replace that one and rescue stranded passengers elsewhere. Thomas Cook may well say an act of God caused the whole mess but my argument will be that although a rainstorm caused the plane at Gatwick to be immobilised they chose to reroute my plane which had no technical or other fault to fix the Gatwick problem. So their choice caused our delay not an unforseen problem and that they should have had a standby plane for such problems. There was nothing wrong with our airplane. Can anyone anyone advise me whether this is a runner?0 -

Yes - if the circumstances are as described, then the delay was clearly caused by an operational decision over which the airline had control. That's a pretty watertight argument for compensation, in my view.0 -

Hi,
I'm in full agreement with Vaubans reply above.
Could you give further details i.e date and flight number plus info on stranded aircraft at LGW. Please PM me if you don't want it on the open form.
Vauban - you've got to stop this paronomasia :rotfl:Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0
