Just got a cheque through the post for little under £1600, thanks MSE. Comes to about £315 for each of us that were delayed.0

Today I received €1200 euros for a 4.5 hour delay to Orlando in 2011. They knocked me back a couple of years ago, but I tried again this year after the European court ruling. Well happy...:j. Thanks MSE.0

Hi, let me know if posting in the wrong area, we have a scenario for which I am struggling to find an answer for... we booked a journey from Manchester, Uk to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The flight was entirely with Delta but we were getting a connecting flight through JFK, New York. The flight from Manchester to JFK was on time but the flight from JFK to FLL was delayed by 222 minutes.
The specific delayed flight was obviously in the US only, but my overall flight journey delay was greater than 3 hours and started in the UK. Can anyone share any expertise on the validity of this claim?0 -
Hello, I had a flight from Liverpool to the Isle of Man at 08:35 that was cancelled. I was told that I was transferred to the 11:30 flight instead, this was delayed a further 30 mins so we didn't leave until 12:10. Therefore i didn't end up in my final destination until 12:50 which is more than 3 hours!
Could I claim for compensation?0 -
All the details can be found in Vaubans guide. You can judge for yourself, but on the face of it you have a claim.
Good luck. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -
We were delayed 27 hours from cuba in january flying with Thomas Cook because there was a hole in the tyre on the landing gear, guess what thomas cook said no compensation even though we had to pay over two hundred pounds to get our missed flights and trains etc back from Manchester to Plymouth. Has anyone else had this problem and is there anything i can do about it0

lorn - read Vauban's Guide - totally valid claim - future posts on TC thread please.0

Hello
Hoping for some guidance on my recent delay
We flew to Hong Kong with Finnair out of manchester ( via Helsinki)
The flight left manchester on time and landed on Helsinki slightly ahead of schedule.
Than things went horribly wrong the plane to HK was delayed , eventually by 12 hours, finnair put us up in hotel until the delayed flight arrived the next day ( it was then delayed another hour )
We were travelling with a six year old and on the way to a family gathering.
I have read the guidance on the site but am confused if my flight is delayed by more than 4 hours i am entitled to six hundred euros does the level of compensation rise the longer the delay is?
it seems slightly wrong that a four hour delay is the same as a 12-13 hour delay, this is before we get into the missed connections in HK and the sheer bloody inconvenience, I assume if I contact Finnair they will offer me the standard 600 x3 and hope i go away, whilst they were quite good at Helsinki ( getting us into a hotel and providing breakfast ) we didnt really get any other help and were totally unaware of the procedure unti,l the next morning
any pointers would be good
Cheers

depending on the reason for the delay €600 may be payable.
This is a fixed amount and does not increase based on length of delay - your travel insurance may give £x for each 12 hour delay for example but EU261 is a set figure...should someone 'only' delayed 4 hours get less than €600, should someone delayed 12 hours get more...maybe they should but the law does not state that so they won't
The only thing I can see missing from Duty of care is a couple of phone calls, if you made these then you could send in your bill for reimbursement0 -
Hi all,
Just a quick thought. I've been reading through a number of old posts & haven't seen it mentioned since I've been actively watching this forum, but a few posters from back in 2013 mentioned that their household insurance included free legal cover & that they were able to use this service to handle their 261/2004 compensation claims as an alternative to using a NWNF firm & with the prospect of no legal fees.
Just a thought that's probably worth bringing up again, definitely worth the cost of a phone call to find out.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
SUCCESS THROUGH PERSEVERANCE.
Flight delays - Vauban's Guide has been of immense help - please read it before posting questions - I'll be surprised if your answers aren't in there.
April 2016 - successfully claimed €1600 from Thomas Cook for 6 hour delay in August 2015
