I am confused as to who I claim via.
have a read of Vauban's guide. Claim for EU261 is from the operating airline. Malaysian flight delayed = claim from Malaysian
Whether any compensation is due from the airline will depend on the reason for the delay. If it was outside the control of the airline e.g. weather / ATC then you could try your travel insurance policy (although many offer small amounts...eg £20 for each 12 hours)0 -
Has anybody found that you can no longer get a copy of 261/2004 from the EU publications website - it says the document doesn't exist! If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

I think they keep on shifting it in the hope that it'll disappear!0 -
I have just been cancelled on a Ryanair flight from East Midlands to Faro Portugal. They have offered me a flight in two weeks time!!, the cancellation was due to French air traffic control strike but other companies are flying from UK to Portugal today using other air routes avoiding Frenbch air space but Ryanair won't pay to do that. I can have a refund but can I claim compensation. .0

You could ask for a rerouting though - a flight in two weeks isn't reasonable. Ask them to do this and if they say know buy an alternative flight and sue for the money?0

I had a flight from Glasgow to Gatwick a couple of weeks ago that was delayed in excess of 5 hours due to an oil spill on the runway at Gatwick. Unfortunately this happened whilst we were in the air and ended up with the flight being diverted to Bournemouth where we sat on the plane, on the ground for several hours before eventually taking off for Gatwick again.
I logged a claim through Resolver but BA have today come back to say that it's not a valid claim as the circumstances were outside of their control.
Does this sound right? Seems a bit disingenuous that I can be delayed for that long and not be compensated...
Thanks!0 -

their response sounds correct, they did not have any control over being able to land.
..why should BA need to compensate you because there was an oil spill and Gatwick Airport closed their runway?
There are elements that are within the airlines control and those that are not. They are only liable to pay you compensation if the cause of the delay is totally within their control0 -
I used the resolver app to lodge a claim for a delayed Thomson flight from Sanford to Manchester back in January 2013.
I've got to say it was really easy and better still the next communication I had from Thomson was a letter and cheque for the full statutory compensation amount.
I was expecting to have to work a bit harder than that to get it!0 -
I used the template letter (somewhere on this site) for a flight from Manchester to Chania with Monarch that was delayed 9hours-feeling we'd lost a day in the sun. I still had all the info because I'd booked online, but wasn't especially hopeful cos the claim was for back in 2013 - but I got just over £300 back per passenger, and it was so straight forward and easy - no fuss. I'm really pleased0
