  • Hi, I wonder if you can help. I was supposed to fly back to London last week from Lugano (Switzerland) via Zurich. The first leg of my flight was cancelled due to a sudden snow-fall; Swiss Air provided no help or solution in getting me to Zurich, simply suggesting I should drive or take a train there (It would have taken me about 4 hours to get myself to Zurich). Luckily I did not follow their advice: I later found out that the trains were all delayed due to the weather conditions. I instead bought a ticket with Easyjet from Milan which is only about two hours away. This obviously caused more expenses (last-minute ticket purchase, train, bus) but I did land at around the same time I would have landed if I had been able to fly on the original flights.
Under the circumstances do I only claim the price of the return ticket?
    Many thanks for your help.

no compensation due as the cancellation was due to weather. Had Swiss given you a flight on another day then they would have been responsible for duty of care until that flight (hotel, meals etc) Did you ask Swiss to find you an alternative flight from Milan? you may find they may only be liable for a refund of the unused ticket. You can try for the alternate expenses instead but they may state that you removed yourself from their care by purchasing a ticket independently.
May be worth speaking to your travel insurance for the added expenses
  • So let me get this straight.
So here I am in Barbados on holiday and had to go back for a funeral leaving Sunday and returning to Barbados on Tuesday.

My flight was cancelled due to a technical fault so it never left the UK that morning.

But because my flight was starting in Barbados I'm not entitled to anything?

I'm also a bit miffed that they say they don't cover consequential losses. i.e. my hotel at Gatwick Airport for Monday night. It was my former partners funeral which I missed.

Depends if you were due to fly on an EU or non-EU based airline. If the latter, then the European regulations (compensation) don't apply.

Was this the cancelled BA flight on Sunday?
If so BA is an EU airline so EU261 does apply
If you chose not to travel you would be entitled to refund plus €600
You can either use your compensation to cover your consequential losses or try your travel insurance
  • Dear Money Saving Expert
My husband and I travelled with Ryanair last year and had a 5 hour delay due to technical faults on the arrival plane back.
Ryanair have agreed to pay us but I would like to know how much compensation we are due to receive as I am not sure what we are entitled to. The Flight distance is 967miles and two people travelled on the same booking.

    Can you please advise?

1556 km which equates to 400 euro compensation per passenger Which two airports were involved?
  • I filled in form with Resolver more than two weeks ago and haven't had a reply from Thomas Cook. What do I do now?

Read Vauban's Guide although you may wish to wait a little longer than 2 weeks unless you are nearing the 6 year threshold.
  • Hi, please can someone advise me.

I was delayed by 4 hours from Heathrow (Heathrow-Kuala Lumpur-Perth) which caused me to miss my connecting flight in Kuala Lumpur so I had to take an additional flight to Singapore also.

I am confused as to who I claim via. I booked the flights through STA Travel. The flights itself were with Malaysia airline. I've since contacted STA and they told me I need to put in a claim with their insurers Allianz. (who I purchased travel insurance from). Is this correct? I thought I would claim direct with STA or Malaysia airline, and not through insurance. Can anyone advise me?

    Thanks in advance.
