just the one booking not separate legs0 -
but different airlines. It doesn't matter if its a code shae. so if your flight was say AF and your missed connection due to bumping was by china southern, then no claim. If you were bumped by Air France from china to manila you may have a claim. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

I'm sorry for the really long post!
Myself and my family, there were 7 of us in total, including my youngest daughter who was under 2, recently went on holiday to florida.
We booked all the flights through British airways.
We were meant to be travelling from Heathrow to jfk then onto orlando, several times from booking to the actual departure date, our flight times changed, then on the day of departure we had an email saying our flight was cancelled. This was 3 hours before we were due to take off.
We contacted ba and eventually got them to find us a flight for that day with aer lingus, so our route changed to stop in Dublin before going onto orlando.
We were staying near terminal 5 and had to pay for a taxi to get us to terminal 2 instead, are we entitled to get compensated for the taxi or any of it?
On our return home, our flight was leaving Orlando, stopping in dallas then onto Heathrow. The flight carrier was American Airlines but it was all under our original ba booking.
The plane from Orlando had been delayed leaving the previous airport so our flight was delayed, there was no announcements until it was already 30 minutes after departure time. We then had to go to a different gate at the airport to meet another plane, which was also delayed, we ended up being delayed by nearly 2 hours so by the time we landed in dallas our connecting flight had already left.
We then had a nightmare getting any information from the airport staff, even though the lady who did help was really trying her best, apparently having an infant with you makes everything much harder!, we then got sorted around 11.30pm, we were given vouchers for food and a hotel for the night and booked onto a flight the next day leaving at 4.40pm. We were told we could only use the food vouchers in the airport but there was a 24 hour place so to go there to feed the children then find an aa desk and they would sort us with a taxi to our hotel.
We had the food but when we tried to fund someone for the taxi everywhere was closed and all the staff had gone home.
We managed to find a airport bus which took us to some taxis, we showed the driver our voucher with the hotels address on and it cost us $34. We unloaded at the hotel and the taxi left only for us to find that it was the wrong hotel, it is now 1am. The hotel kindly phoned another taxi to take us to the right hotel, which seemed to go a very long way round and charged us $125, the hotel then told us it shouldn't have cost more than $40!
By the time we got booked in and got to our rooms it was now 2am. The hotel also told us our food vouchers could be used most places and the dennys across the street would take them for breakfast the next day.
We then used the free hotel shuttle to get to the airport and get our flight which was thankfully on time and ironically was with ba instead of aa.
I had left my car in the long stay car park at Heathrow and had prepaid so then had to pay an extra £21 for being 24 hours late collecting it.
I have contacted ba and they say they don't owe us anything as aa was the carrier flight.
Aa have offered us $200 each in transportation vouchers which are to be used within a year.
I have explained that due to work commitments and my older children have got important exams coming up in the next few years, we won't be able to use them but they have refused to give it in money instead and will only give the vouchers as it's a goodwill gesture.
I realise that they're a non-eu carrier and so they don't have to give anything but can I still insist on money instead of vouchers? And are ba liable in any if this?
I'm really hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance.0 -
Nothing due under Regulation 261/04 for the return trip, I'm afraid. BA has no liability, assuming you were always scheduled to return with AA (even if booked through BA).
On the outward journey, if the cancellation and schedule schedule change was made within 7 days of departure and the re-routing meant you departed "no more than one hour before the scheduled time of departure and to reach their final destination less than two hours after the scheduled time of arrival", then you are owed each 600 euros from BA - assuming the cancellation wasn't caused by "extraordinary circumstances". If the under 2 year old paid a fare too - even a smaller "infant fare" they are owed 600 euros as well.0 -
Hi,
I just wondered if anyone had any opinion or adivise.
In December I had a 4+ hour delay coming back from Tenerife, I've used the standard templates to request compensation from Thompson, thinking my case would be cut n dry.
They have come back saying I cannot claim due to extraordinary circumstances:
In a limited number of circumstances Regulation 261/2004 of the European Union (“the Regulation”) now entitles some affected customers to a payment when their flight is delayed over three hours on arrival.
In light of the Supreme Court ruling on 31st October 2014 we have investigated the claim for flight TOM3111 Tenerife to Doncaster and our delay handling logs show that the flight was delayed due to a knock on effect from the previous days flying programme due to the offloading of drunk passengers causing the cabin crew to go out of hours.
So as to help both customers and airlines, the European Commission has recently published draft guidelines as to what amounts to extraordinary circumstances. This list was prepared with the assistance of the various national bodies responsible for regulating the aviation industry across Europe.
In this draft, the Commission has intimated that the following would be considered extraordinary circumstances:
9. Removal of an unruly passenger from the aircraft for security reasons -
thereby causing either a flight delay or diversion.
An operating air carrier shall not be obliged to pay compensation in accordance with Article 7, if it can prove that the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.
The circumstances surrounding the delay to your flight are classified as extraordinary circumstances under Regulation 261/2004 of the European Union. Therefore we reject your claim for compensation under this regulation.
Can they really claim that the extraordinary circumstances can extend to subsequent flights the next day? I did ask for them to reassess my claim, but they immediately just backed up the original reason.
Should I try to take it further? They mention the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) in their last reply, should I risk the £25? Has anyone had any experience of the process?
Any help would be appreciated....

The hotel in Cyprus and taxis are consequential losses. Probably best to speak to your travel insurance
Any idea why you and your friend were "chosen" to be the ones that had to lose a seat?
The airline is meant to ask for volunteers. It seems unfair if they did not as there may well have been people on the flight that a 22 hour delay would not have affected as much
Thank You for your response.
I did ask the ground staff regarding why we were chosen, unfortunately it was after the flight had. they did not give me the exact reason why we were chosen, the explanation they gave was that the staff was not experienced, they did not handle the situation well etc. They did not ask for any volunteers.0 -
Thank you so much for the information.0

Hi all,
I had a delayed flight in January for 4+ hours with Germania and used the guide on MSE and they have got back to me quickly with an offer of 150Euros per person.
Now my question is whether I should just take the money or try to get the full 250Euros out of them? Is it worth the potential extra hassle?
Thanks0
