Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

This is on the BBC website. It's only a bit helpful as, after encouraging people to claim if delayed, it implies one will need a claim firm or lawyer (wrong) and also says most misleadingly that 'extraordinary circumstances' will invalidate a claim.
Well, we know better than that, don't we?0 -
Hi, my flight from LHR to Accra was affected by the baggage system failure on Saturday. As a result we could not fly that day and had to rebook (for a week later), which had a knock on effect on a lot of other plans at the destination. Does this count as a delay or cancellation and which template is appropriate? I am not sure.QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

Did you choose to change your flight because of the problems with the baggage? did the chaos mean you were too late to check bags in for the flight? did you have to pay to change your flights?
The airlines are not responsible for the airport infrastructure so I would expect that there would be no EU compensation if this was problem caused by the airport0 -

Try Resolver. I might sound like an advert but it was free and very easy as they have ready worded emails you just add the specifics. I didn't need our boarding passes as I didn't have them anymore, which was partly the reason I hadn't previously claimed. In summary myself and my boyfriend were delayed nearly 12 hours London to Kuala Lumpur in 2011 with Malaysia Airlines. It took nearly 3 months of escalating the issue via Resolver but we both got the maximum compensation. I really would recommend the service for ease of use.Best wins; GoPro, £2K, Brittany week, festival tix twice, Bath break, Sweden spa break, iPhone x2, £250 Amazon x2, tech bundle, 55" TV, Haven break, £1K, Smeg mixer, 3 night spa break, Greenhouse, posh tent, house plants, 2 pairs boots, posh mattress, year tailored supps, £250 lingerie, £150 buyagift, £250 hotel0 -
Hi there - apologies if this issue has already been addressed, am a newbie and there are a lot of pages to go through!
In Dec 2013 we were booked on a flight to Newark (EWR); we awoke to a text message saying our flight had been cancelled, with no further information. When we eventually got through to BA we were told that we had been rebooked on a flight to JFK, which arrived at JFK 30 mins after we were due to arrive at EWR.
The cancellation wasn't due to weather, when we asked at check-in we were told, yes sometimes they cancel flights if they're well under capacity or for various other reasons.
Because our onward journey was to upstate New York, we'd had to change our rental car booking whilst at the airport. And because of the time we arrived, by the time we went through baggage claim, picking up the car and navigating horrific traffic from JFK, we didn't pass EWR until well after 4 hours after we were due to land there. And still had over 4 hours drive to face.
To top things off it was the first time flying with our new baby - he was six months old and we were taking him to meet his grandparents for the first time. All a bit stressful!
Having read the recent coverage and the excellent article on this site, I'm uncertain as to where this leaves us in terms of a compensation claim.
I'm not normally a moaner/complainer, and to be honest didn't even think we'd be entitled to compensation until I saw the recent coverage, as we'd been booked onto a flight into the same city at roughly the same time - so things could have been much worse.
On the other hand, this was massively inconvenient for our onward journey and delayed arrival at our final destination upstate by quite some time. All when travelling with a 6-month old.
