Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

We were recently rerouted - instead of arriving at Manchester airport we were sent to East Midlands airport due to bad weather. Easyjet offered hotels and coaches to bring us back to MCR, but only for 12 hours later. As we had to be back before then we ended up taking a taxi immediately instead. Are we eligible for reimbursement for the taxi ride?
Thank you very much!I never knew there were so many things I can get along without0 -
Hi everyone,
I would very much welcome your assistance in the following matter.
Last year, myself and two friends were travelling from Glasgow to Toronto with Icelandair, which meant going via Iceland. We were due to leave in the morning but the flight was then delayed for hours, meaning that once we reached Iceland, there would be no flight leaving to go to Toronto until the next day. No solution offered, no accommodation discussed with ourselves either for the overnight wait. Upon querying this with the Icelandair customer service team, they informed me that two out of the three of us could get a flight to amsterdam with Icelandair and go to Toronto from there, but not all of us. Obviously we were not satisfied with this and demanded other options. We were then told that we could fly from Glasgow to London the next day and then on to Toronto from there, which worked out quicker than flying to Iceland and staying overnight with no accommodation and then wait until the one flight that leaves for Toronto to depart.
Our holiday was already a short one without this loss of one day, which also resulted in our travel plans from the airport being completely disrupted.
I have so far written to Icelandair to which they replied asking myself and my two friends to fill out claim forms, detailing the full experience. This was around six months ago and I have consistantly emailed to find out what the status is of our complaint, to which I am told that it is still to be looked into. Due to this, I emailed the CEO of Icelandair and have also received no reply from him either.
Where can I go from here to have this resolved?
Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,

Hi All,
The background:
Following 2 years of arguments, Flybe have offered me compensation for a flight that was cancelled. The original offer was for £300 in vouchers. I told them I would take cash, cheque or direct bank deposit and they have come back with a new offer of €250 minus the bank charges / exchange rate losses etc. I reiterated the point that the original offer was £300 and this is what they should pay me - in the monetary format that I requested, ie not vouchers. They have come back to me again and re-offered the €250.
The questions:
Where do I stand? As far as I'm concerned the original offer should be honoured and the choice of payment method up to me. If they still refuse to pay the original sum can I take them to court?
There's no point in going to one of the 'recovery' agencies as by the time they take theit cut I'd be as well off taking the offer on the table.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation?
To be honest, I'm not that bothered about the amount, it's just that after 2 years of fighting with them I'm sick to death of their attitude and want them to suffer a bit. I think they learned their customer relations at the same school as Ryanair..0 -

The original offer was £300 in vouchers. You do not need to accept this, €250 is the EU compensation amount that you are entitled to. The airline may offer you a higher amount in vouchers as this does not really cost them as much.
Your choice is €250 or the £300 in vouchers you were offered as an alternative. For some people the higher amount in vouchers is worth more to them that the EU compensation amount. If you would not use the vouchers then take the €250 cash0 -
I understand what I'm entitled to, but this doesn't change the fact that more was offered. There was nothing in their original email that said the compensation MUST be taken in vouchers, or that the amount would be reduced if i wanted cash. The amount was only reduced after i rejected the vouchers.0

i think you're being a bit cheeky. £300 in vouchers is not the same as £300 in cash. If you are entitled to get E250 and they offer to pay that or £300 in vouchers or E250 then you have a greater choice and I don't think you should complain but just choose how to receive your 'windfall' (sic)0 -
I agree: £300 is vouchers is definitely not the same offer as £300 in cash. Take the money and count your blessings.0

Yes I agree, I've never heard of an airline offering to pay more than the EC regulations dictate unless in vouchers as in this case.
If you're planning to fly Flybe again by all means take the vouchers or if you really want cash then ask them to pay in GBP with the conversion to GBP at the date of commencement of court proceedings citing the DJ Jenkinson Judgment.
