I have been informed that the reason my flight was cancelled was because of 'bird strike' now without knowing the details I don't know if this is a reasonable excuse or a way of checking if it is genuine. Does anyone have any thoughts, insights or knowledge of how to check why a plane was cancelled?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

If you do not know the airline it will be impossible to check. If you do know the airline your post is not on the correct thread. Bird strike can be extraordinary ~ really depends upon if it actually occurred to your flight, the preceding flight or one in the previous year to your flight.
  • help I am going round in circles! I am 63 and not really internet savvy! I had a delayed flight with emirates in 2008 and cannot find a web address to contact them. I have been on their web site but it only lets you contact for a refund, not to claim under EC regulation 261/2004. Where do I go from here?

Nexusnobody, the first question is when the delayed occurred in 2008, if it was in September or earlier, you are too late as the time limit is 6 years from the date of the flight.

If you did fly in the last three months of 2008 , the next question is where was the delay as Emirates are a non EU airline and not all flights qualify. If you pass both tests their address is 95 Cromwell Road London, I think the airline is on the 2nd floor!
  • I went on a holiday in 2011 and the return flight from Zante to Birmingham was delayed by 13 hours, due to the airline's fault.
I can't find a record of the flight on the flight stats link provided on Martin's article, and I can't find record of the airline I flew with (Sky Wings) anywhere to contact them - does anybody know where I can find this, or any info on what has happened to this airline??

    Thanks

  • I have tried writing to both Thomas Cook and The CAA, but I have had the usual replys of the problem was a a technical fault so no compensation will be paid. I asked both parties if they could tell me what the problem was so I could decide to take my case to the small claims court but no party will give me the information I require. Has anybody else tried to claim for this flight who may have the infomation I require. Thank You.

  • I flew back from Beijing on Friday.
I was booked with Air France, to fly to Paris and then on to Manchester. Due to arrive at 18.50.

Pilots on strike, so re-arranged to fly via BA to London Heathrow, then via Virgin Atlantic to Manchester. Due in at 18.05.
The second leg was delayed by over an hour, and I was denied boarding as there had been a cancelled Virgin flight earlier in the day.

They then put me on the 20.45 to Manchester, which was also delayed and I landed in Manchester at around 22.40. And my bag when missing!

Will I be eligible for compensation for the delays in the second leg under EU rule 261/2004?

Any help appreciated, as I can't work it out.

First things first, please post on the relevant thread ie Virgin, if this is who your delayed second leg flight was with.
And yes you are probably due compensation under denied boarding against Virgin.
