Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

Does anyone know how you stand with a joint flight? You know where there is one aircraft but for example it is a delta and klm flight. And the delay is USA to London leg. I'm guessing that if you booked as a klm flight then you are covered by the regs but if as a delta flight you are not. But can anyone confirm that?0

Hi all,
I have recently contacted Thomson as a recent flight from Greece to the Uk was delayed 17.5 hours. This flight was within Europe and was a EU regulated flight, this flight was also within the last year and the delay was the airlines fault! From these circumstances it would appear me and my party are entitled to some compensation, especially considering we had all missed a day of work!
However when I contacted Thomson they stated as they had provided appropriate welfare and assistance therefore they are under no obligation to pay compensation. I am unsure what move I should now make as I am unsure if I have a claim? Can anyone help
Thankyou!!0 -

Flight Delay Compensation Important Info - Please check before posting0 -
Hi
I recently travelled with TAP from Heathrow to Newark (USA) via Lisbon; returning to Gatwick, again via Lisbon. Both flights were delayed, the outbound flight by 6hrs 15 mins and the inbound by 6hrs 46 mins.
Although it took 4 weeks, phones calls and multiple emails to get them to engage in any form of dialogue with me, they did pay up without quibble for the outbound leg.
However, TAP has stated it won't compensate me for the return leg as the flight from Newark to Lisbon was only 2 hrs late and there was no further delay as they'd already rebooked me on a later (on time) flight from Lisbon to Gatwick, so my late arrival into Gatwick wasn't actually late at all. TAP's actual words were:
"We also would like to present our sincerest apologies for the 2 hour and 7 minutes delay of flight TP104 between Newark and Lisbon of the 12th of July. Consequently, upon your arrival to Lisbon, it was no longer possible for you to board flight TP342 to London, on the 4th of July. Reason for which, our services provided rerouting on flight TP344, on the same day.
In this sense, we regret to inform you that we cannot correspond to your compensation request."
This is not correct, is it? I've written back quoting the Folkerts ruling..0 -

Possibly a moot point and little case evidence one way or another but if your return journey was a single ticket, you arrived over 6 hours late irrespective of any rebooking.
They are trying to interpret the regs, incorrectly IMHO, to their advantage. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Doesn't matter what it was "booked" as - if you flew with a European carrier into the EU you are covered by the regs; if you flew on a US carrier into the EU you are not.0 -
Is TAP an EU airline? If so, they are wrong.

Yes, it's the Portuguese national carrier, and yes, it was also a single ticket. I'll await their reply then.... Thanks0 -
I have been informed that the reason my flight was cancelled was because of 'bird strike' now without knowing the details I don't know if this is a reasonable excuse or a way of checking if it is genuine. Does anyone have any thoughts, insights or knowledge of how to check why a plane was cancelled?
Thank you in advance for any advice.0 -

My flight from Orlando to Dublin was cancelled in 2011 due to to the flight staff being poorly we flew 24 hours later was provided with accommodation and meals. I originally wrote to Aer Lingus requesting compensation as we had missed our transport home, time off work, kennels etc Aer Lingus wrote to me advising I had no claim as meals were provided. I no longer have the letter nor do I have any flight confirmation I am also unable to check with bank/credit card statements for booking as the person who booked the flights have sadly passed away.
I cannot see a thread or contact for are lingus was wondering if anyone can advise on my chances of claiming compensation? I have traced the flight number from the flights website and it is showing as cancelled.
Any advice would be very much appreciated0 -

Aer Lingus would fall under "other EU airlines" so would be this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4445431 (there are a few posts in there relating to EI if you use the search)
Staff sickness seems to be a grey area regarding extraordinary circumstances, had the flight been departing from Dublin I would say a 24 hour delay would be extreme as they would have staff on standby but they would not have standby crew in Orlando
Have a read of Vauban's guide in the last link here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4896454
note, consequential losses are not the responsibility of the airline. (eg your transport home, kennels etc) If you qualify for compensation this would be at a fixed rate of €6000
