Hi, sorry if this has already been asked. I applied for compensation and got a voucher from the travel company, I was wondering, am I legally entitled to ask them to repalce it with cash? Would there be a time limit on asking for the replacement?
    Thanks

Hi all. My dad was supposed to be departing at 20:20 but his flight was rescheduled to leave at 23:30 and it did about that time. It is clearly a 3h delay but I've been looking at details of the flight at flightstats and it says that Wizzair has rescheduled the flight at 17:36 and supposedly informed customers about this. My dad didn't get a text message about it as it was booked by his brother (we are checking if he got it or not, if he indeed gave his mobile phone number).

In any case, this is just a few hours before the departure information and it's obvious that passengers were already on the way to the airport.

Do you think we can claim for the flight delay? We most probably will anyway but I was wondering if he has a good case (of course we don't know why the delay was caused so the airline can as usual get out of it somehow).

If the notification of rescheduling was less than 14 days before the flight, then it is to be treated as a delay. But when did the flight arrive? This is what matters - not whether it was late taking off (time can be made up in the air...)

Thanks! Information on the screen at the airport was saying Estimated at 23:15 (so 5 minutes before the 3h threshold). It could have changed though as that one was at around 7pm (need to check with dad). Estimated gate departure says on the flightstats 11:35, so I presume we can go ahead with the claim.

On the same day, earlier flight from around 14:30, to the same destination city, was also delayed and departed at around 22:00.

The delay to the earlier flight suggests there may have been problems at the arrival airport which caused the delays in which case there is no claim. Which airport was your Dad flying to and exactly when did he arrive?

It was London-Luton to Gdansk (Poland). I've got his text message and it was 23:37 when he informed me when he was on the plane. I think they departed shortly after. I would need to check with him the exact time but the usual flight time is around 2h I think.

As Vauban says, it is the arrival delay that triggers any flight delay compensation so I would try and get confirmation. Does flighstats not show actual arrival time?

I'd be very wary of making a legal claim without some evidence of the delay being 'long enough'. The airline may well confirm if you ask.
