  • But surely if the change is material, date or change from day flight to night flight, you have the right to cancel?

Yes, even if the flight time was changed by just 1 minute you're entitled to cancel the flight and get a full refund.
  • Dear all,

I hope you may be able to answer a quick query I have.

I recently returned from a trip to Tokyo where my flight (with Air France) to London Heathrow via Paris was delayed by almost 24 hours (from 12.55pm to 10:05am the following day). This was due to adverse weather (lots and lots and lots of snow). Also due to this weather I in fact got stuck in traffic on my way to the airport and missed my flight by 9 hours, not knowing if my flight had left or not.

I arrived and was happy to find it had been delayed until the next day and wasn't going to have to fork out for a new flight. When I eventually got my flight all the passengers were asked to fill out a form and I have since been offered an £80 voucher as an apology (which I thought was very generous seeing as they couldn't control the weather). However, they also specified in the email that the flight was delayed due to the crew getting caught up in the bad weather and not being at the airport for the flight to leave. So my query is:

    1. Does this mean it's the Air France's fault for not having crew nearer to the airport or in reserve for such an incident. Or does this fall under the 'bad weather' banner and therefore I won't be able to claim compensation?

    2. If it is indeed their fault, as I wasn't in fact myself at the airport for the original check-in time, can I claim compensation?

    I appreciate any advice :-)

Bad weather, no claim Doug. £80 a nice bit of recompense though, providing your a frequent flyer obviously.

Oh that's a shame. Yes it was a nice gesture. I was hoping that it would fall under the Airline's responsibility for making sure the flight has the potential to leave even if it can't due to bad weather.
  • Hi all,

Yes you have read right 2013 not 2014.....

We were delayed by 24 hours on a flight from Birmingham to New York in March 2013 and we are still fighting for compensation. We were told that the flight coming in from New York was diverted to Canada and so could not make it back in time to pick us up as it should have done. We have sent several e mails and letters to United Airlines with some responses being curt and rude. The CAA have not been very helpful or quick - and we are just waiting for them to respond to our last query. It has taken over 9 weeks I think.

Anyone any suggestions to move this forward, including if anyone has taken out a claim in the small claims courts against United Airlines?

    Regards,

PS it is my first time on here and I would love to be MF by the time I am 50 - April 2023 at the latest.... How do I go about completing a diary to achieve this. Also need to be able to pay back a career development loan by end of April 2015 - saving for this is going well tbh. Thanks for listening:)

  • I always thought that the French could control anything but obviously the weather's too much even for them.

    1. Does this mean it's the Air France's fault for not having crew nearer to the airport or in reserve for such an incident.

Generally aircraft crew are required to be in hotels some way from airports to ensure they get sufficient peace & quiet (no aircraft noise, guests moving around at all hours coming from or going to flights) and rest to make them safe to operate flights.
At the end of the day they have to be rested enough so that even at the end of the flight they can deal with any emergency (possibly saving your life)

As for standby/reserve, given duty hours limitations they would probably need multiple crews just sat around just in case hardly reasonable or practicable

You've posted the same thing elsewhere.
  • Hiya, hoping someone cam help me!

A group of us flew from newcastle to london gatwick yesterday, flight was due to leave at 18.05 but due to technical problems we didnt leave until 9.09. According to flybe's arrivals on gatwicks site it was due to land at 19.40, this has confused me a bit as when we eventually boarded the pilot told us the flight time was 1.20?

Anyway, according to the gatwick arrivals board, we arrived at 22.26 - took a picture of this. This would indicate that we were just under the 3 hours delay, but im not sure how they calculate arrival time, is this literally the moment the plane hits the ground? We taxied in the plane for ages on landing, then had to get a bus to the terminal so by the time we actually got into the arrivals hall it was exactly 22.40.

What does this mean in terms of claiming compensation??
