Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

Hi, I need some advice what to do.
We booked with KLM a flight from Manchester to Manila on Feb 12, 2014. The flight was delayed by 3h 20m due to weather conditions so we missed the connection flight from Amsterdam to Manila. We were re booked on the same flight 24h later and KLM checked us into a hotel in Amsterdam. My wife did not had a visa for Netherlands so we had to wait for 2 hours to get a 1 day Visa. Due to the 24h delay I had to re book all my connection flights with an additional cost, all connection flights were more expensive and we had to stay 2 nights in a hotel, because one flight only operates every 2 days. Instead of 3 days travelling until reaching our destination we spend 5 days. KLM does not feel responsible for anything what followed after they loaded us off in Manila. Can I still claim compensation or should I just claim the additional costs from my travel insurance?
Thanks for any help.0 -
Everything flows from the reason for the delay. If the delay was really due to weather conditions and no other reason (e.g. the flight could not take off until the weather improved) then I do not believe that you have a valid claim. The visa situation is unfortunate but hardly the fault of the airline. It may be worth checking the weather situation.0

My family & I were delayed 5 hours in 2012 from London, Gatwick to Montego Bay, Jamaica. We were informed at the time that it was a technical fault with the plane. I have sent in a claim form printed from the Virgin website & I have today received a reply from Virgin stating that they do not feel they have to pay compensation as it was an Extreme Circumstance. The Exhaust nozzle had to be changed. The delay was very frustrating as we had our 2 very young children with us, 2 & 5 years old. The delay meant that we arrived at the hotel in Jamaica at about 1am.
Is there anything I can do to take this further?
Thanks.0 -
Hello and welcome to MSE, would you please re-post on the Virgin thread.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

One thing I wish folk would get their heads round are the excuses given by handling agents and aircraft crew.
Whilst they may be based on the truth they are all under instruction not to say anything that would cause distress to nervous flyers or cause unrest regarding safety on-board.
I had this discussion in 2007 on another forum and subsequently with serving crew!
As an example an incident was reported on the BBC NE news earlier in the week where an Easyjet flight was delayed by 2 1/2 hours after a member of a group of school children travelling on it became upset at an imagined security issue, the whole party and their luggage had be offloaded before the flight could depart0 -

Without reading the 387 pages this has grown to...
Is there anything with regards to a Flight that was changed, so the departure time was 4hrs 25min earlier, meaning it was no longer viable to travel on.
We then had to book an alternative, which was more expensive (~£25)War does not determine who is right. War determines who is left.0 -

When were you notified of the change?
If the change was made more than 2 weeks before the scheduled departure date then you can't claim compensation.0 -

If the change was made more than 2 weeks before the scheduled departure date then you can't claim compensation. It was 10 weeks before. After they'd already had the money sitting in their account for 4months.
It was at least better than the time they changed the Friday afternoon-sunday night weekend trip to Saturday-Saturday (with 30mins to run around and book onto the same flight).War does not determine who is right. War determines who is left.0 -

But surely if the change is material, date or change from day flight to night flight, you have the right to cancel?0
