Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

has anyone ever got any think back from ba from outside the eu
i had a flight delayed from Tampa to Gatwick for 24 hrs in july they did put me up in a hotel etc but still was a pain
some said it was because of too much traffic flying into Gatwick due to the Olympics others said that ba were short staffed
was going to complain to ba in writing but i am yet to see any success stories so far so guess i would be wasting my time
Post this in the BA forum and someone might be able to help0 -
I have now had a successful claim for a Virgin flight my wife and I took at the end of 2006.
I originally 'requested' some form of compensation in early 2007 but Virgin chose to beat about the bush and wore me down until I gave up. Long story short, I was in Orlando, there were 2 Virgin flights one to Gatwick and the one I was on to Manchester (then onwards to Dublin). The Gatwick flight developed technical problems and Virgin decided to transfer approx 75 passengers from it onto our flight causing a delay of 1 hour and 10 minutes - exactly the length of time I had to make my connection (which was on a single booking). I missed the connection and was rebooked onto a later flight arriving home 7 hours late. I think it would have been fair for them to, for example send my wife and I for a nice meal after we had got home but no they just said technical problems do happen and they were sorry. Well they are now nearly £1000 sorry! We will have that nice meal and there will also be a nice donation to charity.
I would like to thank a few on here, Blindman, RichardW, Mark2Spark and especially Centipede100 who answered my specific queries. I have never raised a small claim before but by reading their collective posts on here I was suitably forearmed and had an idea about what I was doing.
What I have no idea about is how they keep up with all the posts on here and also have the patience to answer all the (frequently repetitive) queries.

Seeing as this thread is now slowing down, with the creation of the dedicated airline threads, i'll re post the FAQ's one more time.Mark2spark wrote: »Re post of the FAQ's with CAA contact details included.

OK guys, some reassurance is required if you wouldn't mind.
My claim is against Air France dating back to 2010.
First element is a cancelled flight, now this was due to weather, but my understanding is I can still claim a refund.
The second element is once again Air France who had a delayed flight of 199 minutes.
Both of these are due to the weather, so in that case I can only claim for a refund (or should I say have reasonable claims for a refund!).
Am i on the right lines here?

IMO.
A refund for the first flight.
Nothing for the 2nd flight. You needed to have had a delay of 5 hours before you could get a refund.0 -
Not sure if this is relevant but we were on a cruise in 2010/2011 christmas and new year with p&o . Our flight home was delayed by approx 13hrs( I think) We were allowed to keep our cabin and they allowed us to keep on usng our cruise card for food et, but we were required to vacate the cabin by about 4pm and this left usfloating around (so to speak) until 11.30pm that evening .Am I able to claim as the flight was so delayed or not as it was booked as part of a cruise package? P&O nearly always charter the planes.
Any advice most welcome .0 -
